Lamborghini was Mopar?!?!?!
« on: December 11, 2006 - 02:33:51 PM »
I just read on Wikipedia that Chrysler bought Lamborghini in the '80's, and sold it in 1994 to some Indonesian company.  So the Countach I liked so much when I was in high school was a Mopar?

I guess that's why Lamborghini worked with Dodge on the Viper, eh?

What else did Chrysler own that we don't all know about?

They also had part of Maserati back then.  (early 80's).  That is why the Maserati T-3 was built.  It was a modified LeBarron convertible.  Things were crazy then with Chrysler fighting for it's life.  Stock prices dropped real close to $3 a share.  My Dad bought 2000 shares at 4.20 a share and still has it. That was a gamble.  He also sold a rough hemi Superbird for $1500 and used the money as a downpayment for a 79 Chrysler 300 in hopes it would become valuable.   You win some and lose some.

Chrysler owned a good part of Sunbeam car company in the 60s. In fact if you look on the passenger fender you will see the usual pentastar emblem. The weirdest part is that you could buy a car from the Sunbeam car company with the Chrysler pentastar on the fender and a small block Ford under the hood. Beside dealing with Maseratti and Lamborghini, Chrysler also had a little to do with Jensens.
