73 Cuda Console fit up
« on: December 11, 2006 - 09:01:25 PM »
Based  on  everything  in  other text  I   must  have  a console  from  an automatic since the console  base  doesn't  sit  flat  on the trans hump. Seems  like  it  needs to be trimmed to the trans  hump  contour  from the stick cut out  forward  on the drivers  side?  The  cut out  for the stick is 3 3/8" wide x 4 1/2" long. Can  someone provide the cutout detail  as in  size  and  a reference  from one  end  of the console  so  as to locate  to do a mod. Also  how  many  points/ or  is there a bracket  that  holds  the console  at the front end? The  back  appears  to have  2 screws  thru  the  bottom  of the console compartment  but  not  sure on the front. Also  would  need to know  where the console  is mounted  related  to somewhere on the floor pan. ..........thx  all

The auto's have a cut out as well. At least my supposed auto version does. As do all the ones I've even seen in my Ebay searches before I found mine.

On the side, next to the shifter hole... about 4 or 5 inches long and 1 or so inches high. That's it. I believe it's pretty much a straight line along the rest of the console. On both sides.

What would be great, for the original poster and myself, is a good photo of the left side of an original 4-speed console so the contour where it meets the floor can be seen.

I think the existing hole needs to be noched on each side to accomodate the shifter boot trim ring, but there might be more to it than that.

So other than that it's straight along the left side?

If so, cool. That means I'll only have to notch the already exsisting hole for the trim ring.

thx  for the  feed back,  i  have  no  brkts  on  my  trans  hump  so will need to fab  same....MOPARAL,  approx  how  far  do  those  brkts  sit off the trans  hump? The  cut out  on the  driverside  of  my console  is approx  1"  x 8"  long.   If  these  brkts  hold  the console  off the trans  hump  then  I'd  say  i 've  got  a 4 speed part? Is  the hole  for the shifter  as I've  got  above  match  what  others  have??

oops :poopoke: I looked close today but forgot about measuring. But it is right at 2.5 to 2 3/4  inches. If you read this and want exact, post again and I will go unlock my shop....sorry about being late, I got tied up working

MOPARAL..........if  you  can  get me the height  of the two  brkts  above  the console  then  I  can  fab  the brkts  and  attach  them accordingly  to my  trans  hump. Do  you  have  a 4 speed console?  so  as to verify  the  hole  size  i've  got  above  so as to know  I'm  going to put  it in the right place? If  you  could  give  me  a location  for that  brkt  near the shifter hole  say  to the corner closest  to the driver  side  then  i'll know  I'mm on the $$  for  position.  Also  does the console  actuallyy sit  down  on the trans hump  or  is the whole  deal  suspended  above  on these  brkts.........all info  appreaciated.........thx
