Questions
« on: December 12, 2006 - 01:40:14 PM »
Ok narrowing down a few ideas questions we were working out...

1 Did the fender mounted signal light indicators come in black or body color from the factory (or where they all chrome)  I have seen a few pics with them painted but never knew for sure

2 Could you order a 72, 73, 74 Challenger / cuda w/o a Vinyl top (always asumed you could but once again...nothing for sure

3 When a tail panel on a Challenger is painted black, what color are the light buckets painted.  I have seen them in Black, Grey, and Body Color (pretty sure body color was not factory, I know grey was but ..well someone that knows more might shed light a bit)

4 was the AAR antenna different from the std antenna other than the support under the fender/quarter (cable length is not a real issue as much as the "proper look")

Also could anyone provide a template to allow for correct placement of hole, size of whole (is the whole round and smooth, or did it have a key cut into it..etc)

from what I recall the Cuda 70-71 had painted fender turn signals & the Chall had chrome after 71 I think they were all chrome
 yes on the vinyl tops
the whoole rear of the car was black including the taillight buckets but usually the inner surround around the tailight lens was silver / argent

1.  Body color or chrome for both Ebodys.  You could order either.  As  Chryco said 72-74 were all chrome.

2. You could get the 72 - 74 with or without a vinyl top.

3. The 72-74 Rallye taillight buckets are black.

4. I am not sure if it is the same antenna.

 :iagree:

#3 I dont recall ever seeing any factory 72-74 CHallenger that was anythign but body color  with silver/chrome bezels...Not the I've seen 'em all tho.
#4 I beleive the hole is the same as the front mount fender, but the entire base is different because of the body shape in the back. Not positive on it, but pretty sure...

This pic is of a taillight I took off of a 38,000 mile car.  Chrysler painted the black first then added the silver for non-performance models.  They did the same thing with the grilles.  The grilles are molded in black plastic then painted silver for non-perfomance models.  No paint for performance models.  The only thing not correct in this pic is the lens is missing the paint on it.  The raised oval ridge on the lens is supposed to be painted argent silver.  The paint came off of this one when I cleaned it.  Most people don't know to add it when the car is redone.

I have never seen reversed.  The bottom set in this pic are non-rallye with textured silver.  The black one and the 2 incorrectly colored red ones were rallye taillights without the textured silver.

yup black and silver, & Silver and black ...I htink they both still have the silver pinstriping on the lenses.

Our tail panel will be black, I iwll put the pinstriping back on...just was not sure to go with the black or silver buckets

the black is nice, but the silver does make them stand out...but sense there will be no other silver left on the car, it is almost out of place.

Here's a triple black Rallye you can use as a reference.  The engine isn't totally correct but it can give you some ideas on where things go.  It looks like the charcoal canister and other parts are where they should be.
