Update on Racheals progress
« on: December 12, 2006 - 04:01:24 PM »
Hey Y'all , I have to say a big thank you to Miss Laura !
I know I been away a while, but I'z been a busy beaver ! Don't want to go into a big list, so cutting out all of the other stuff, , , , Heres a few pictures of where I'm at with miss Racheal .
I finished stripping the paint, undercoating and other assorted materials from the top of the firewall cowl and windshield framing tonight. Tomorrow I start cutting out cancer and welding in new steel. I'll update as I go along ! This winter I plan on finishing off the engine compartment and the windshield and rear glass area and get them dusted in with finish paint !

Roger will co and stuff !  :2thumbs: I did some cutting on some of the cancer today when I got home from work. I didn't like the way the patch I made came out. So I'll try again tomorrow. The cowl area seems to be very thin steel. Thank GOD for T.I.G welders ! There are a lot of small pits along the fold from the cowl to the windshield recess. I was playing around and found that I could tig weld them reall easilly using around 40 amps. on the amperage control and using the "gas" pedal to adjust up and down. I'll post more progress pic.s as I go along !

Almost done with the windshield / upper cowl area ! Question? Does chrysler paint the inner cowl area? I didn't find anything that looked like paint except for overspray from the last paint job . Seriously, there was absolutely no sign of paint up under the windshield area of the cowl. Could theis be from the 10 years she was sitting in the woods? ? ?  :clueless:

Well, spent all day , hacking out cancer, sand blasting, cutting new pieces of steel and now the windshield area , upper cowl is ready for primer. yea ! ! !  :faint: That was a serious question earlier, did Chrysler paint the inside of the cowl area , and if so, how the h-ll do I do it? ? ?  :clueless:

:faint: Yeah, someone once told me, " firewalls will open up a real bag of worms!" Guess he was right! I was hoping to be done with the last of the cancer in the firewall last night ! I had a 4X3 inch spot to repair on the drivers side , very outboard corner. I dropped the drivers vent box and found bondo. A lot of bondo! When I cut out the little square, I found rust! Alot of rust! Holes ! Looked like swiss cheese! Well, I was going to delete the vent and just weld in a patch panel( save weight, never use it anyways , ect. . . ) but decided to try to fabricate the area myself. Heres a few pictures .
