I have a couple, 1 photoshop on my 'Cuda Andrew did and some inbred 72 Cuda with all the add-ons.
I looked at this myself & IMO, honestly I don't think it's worth it.  :P

The money you spend on a flat hood, bracing, shaker set up etc is around $6-7,000 from memory.
If you do a search for Shakers you'll see my thread with costs and answers from other members.
I decided to save up and put $6+K into the engine instead or just save $6+K and leave it as is.

Cheers,
Carl

True but some projects are for yourself...
The price I got was about $2500-3000 from the base plate up including the ring and brace...you will have to consider labor if you are not doing it yourself. plus intake and carb if you are changing them out and yes the cost of the hood...unless you have one.

I think you can beat that price, but I could be wrong... o and you have to paint the hood too...so there goes more money...

Remember you can take the hood from project to project if you decide to sell or trade the cuda...

Whiel you are at it .. for $5-600 you can add a set of 71 gills  ;)

Sorry, it was $4,200 US for Shaker Hood set up. I added an extra $2,100 for the 340-6bbl setup. Flat hoods (unless you score a real good bargain) are $650+ alone. So, you maybe right, around the $2,500-$3K mark. The Shaker hood kits on eBay, the cheaper ones are around $2,000 plus misc bits, not too mention your time or worse, labor.

Here's a nice little starting point: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/70-74-CUDA-SHAKER-HOOD-AND-TRIM-RING_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140705QQihZ010QQitemZ200057373110QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

IMO I still think it's a waste but that's just me.

That would make a great start!  But I just don't know.  I may make a custom forced system with my bulge hood.I have a cool idea for a shroud under the hood to scoop air to any standard air filter. With the scoops cut out, and screen inserts.Mayby one of those custom AAR ones from that place in Wisconsin.

I havn't talked to Scott.  The pics help alot thanks. I know they are expensive.I could never gill this car.I could shave everything though.  The forced system I have come up with still experimental. But shows great potential.I was an industrial model maker for JD,Polaris, and Newholland.I really like the custom stuff.

Just for the record guys.....

We only sell the metal parts to convert a flat hood into a Shaker hood (The stamped steel under hood brace, the top cast metal trim ring, and our special stamped steel flange). Our prices for these conversion kits are roughly the same as the other source who sells them, the real difference is in thier accuracey to original factory parts. We do not manufacture the other componants needed to go under the hood (the base plate, adapter ring, Bubble, etc.) as there are already several quality sources for all of them. I do carry one of the best bubbles on the market (made by AAR fiberglass) so buyers can pick one up from me without thier typical long lead times, cost is the same as going direct and I offer correct argent paint services as well if interested.

Getting the steel hood converted is the real "work" in going towards a Shaker Hood, the other items can be purchased and added when money allows, there's no advantage in buying it all at once from one source, in fact, if you want the very best quality or price in each componant you can't get it all from one source, you need to shop around for that. I have already shopped and compared, when I sell a kit it comes with an instructional CD that contains a Word document outlining my personal favorite sources for each componant in an effort to make your shopping easier.

Cheers!
Scott

*I'll be happy to answer any other quaestions, feel free to ask

OK it really crossed my mind but I am leaning towards the sharker even if it is a 72 or 73

IMNCARN82 - I ran a shaker on my 1972 for ~10 years before going to a six-pack hood.  The shaker bubble and baseplate is factory and I was running a 6-bbl setup.  The hood is fiberglass.  I think I got it from YearOne back in the 1980's before you could get the metal kits for a flat hood.  I sold the steel hood I had for $150 in 1987 ... big mistake.  The whole setup is in storage now looking for another 'Cudo to go to.  The picture is from the Mopar Nats at National Trail.
