The charger sales have been pretty good so why would they change it? I love how people continue to complain about the 'charger' name being used because the new charger doesnt look like a 68-70......well either do the 66-67, 71-79, or even the 80s Chargers. If you wanted a 68-70 looking charger then go buy a 68-70 Charger, simple as that. The fact of the matter is that the new Charger would run circles around the old Chargers in almost every catogory that isnt opionated.
Charger sales have been good and the fleet sales as a police car are only going to improve the numbers. I think the number of current buyers far outnumbers the "enthusiasts" who won't buy it as a 4-door.
I think it's a nice looking car with great performance. My only suggestion was to call the base and SXT models something else (like Coronet) and leave the Charger name for the R/T. The fact that it has 4 doors doesn't bother me. If they had made it a 2-door it wouldn't have sold, the car would be dead by now. The market for large 2-door cars just isn't there. As a dad with a 21-month-old, I can tell you that putting a baby into a car seat in a 2-door is a royal pain.
Having said that, I would have done something different with the Super Bee, like use the Magnum front end on it. Just to distinguish it a bit.
And why don't I hear from all the '70s Magnum enthusiasts about the new Magnum being a 4-door? Or a wagon? C'mon people, Dodge has a RWD high performance sedan that runs 0-60 in under 6 seconds for around $30K!
