May be old but ain't slow
« on: December 14, 2006 - 07:49:06 AM »
This fall we just moved back into town from Iowa. We decided to go to a local car show. Since the Challenger was having blowby problems I took my 73 Duster wife took her Little Red. After the show we going back to the house and a bunch of kids in a newer Monte Carlo SS followed us. He kept slowing down and then racing up behind me  trying to get me to race. Now the Duster is not a stock mopar. My son had a 360 built with 10.5 to 1 with a wild cam and heavily ported X heads. We did put in a 8 3/4 with strange axles and a 373 posi. I was getting tired of his stupid actions so when we pulled onto a long stretch of blacktop I slowed down. He pulled up beside me yelling " Lets go, Lets go." I clicked it down to first and layed into it. The car launches hard and starts mowing sideways with the rear tires throwing smoke all over place. He just slams on his brakes trying to get out of the way. I let it run thru the gears and look back and he is nowhere in site. I pull into drive at house going back to shop and he drives by a few minutes later real slow looking at me standing beside car. When he sees me he takes off. The funny thing was when I told my wife she wanted to go find him in her Little Red to stomp him again. I wonder where my sons get their need for speed and racing. As I said I may be old but I ain't slow.

That's why I wear the patch it's called MOPAR. I drive a Dakota R/T daily unless it snows and it does just fine for me. It has had a little work done to it and surprises alot of people.

Great kill!!
Some of these young-uns today don't know what real speed is. I have a buddy of mine that drag races a '68 Dart. He's always out in the garage with the door open while he's working on it. It's a modified 383 motor that runs low 11's in the 1/4 mile. A neighborhood kid kept driving by in his ricer revving up his engine as he went by. So Ron waved him in one day and started to talk to him. He complimented his ricer and said to each his own and ricers were cool too in their own way, but that he really didn't know what real speed and torque were and asked him if he wanted to take a ride in the Dart. He did and Ron took him for a neck snapping, wheel lifting ride to which the kid turned ghost white and commented that it must have been a 9 second car. Ron told him what it ran and again told him that he just wasn't used to a truly fast car. The kid slid out of the dart with a yellow spot in his pants and never drove by again!! :roflsmiley:LOL. I love it!!! Nothing like the smell of burning rubber and cubic inches!!
