dipstick length (no joke;o(
« on: December 17, 2006 - 12:11:19 AM »
Changed oil and filter today in the 440.
Put six quarts in her and the dipstick shows half a quart low (half way 'tween full and add). :dunno:

Wonderin if the dipstick could be the wrong one? Handle looks correct compared to pics I've seen of others.
The flattened blade portion is 22.5'' long including the wavey part at the top of flattened blade.

Could someone measure their big block dip-stick ( :nono:) or is this normal?

Finally, if it's the correct D.S. should I add oil till it's at the full mark? Stock looking pan.

Thanks

   :iagree:

My 440 only takes 5 quarts, so I think you might not have a stock pan.

have not seen a #. Where would it be on the pan?

The pan doesn't look aftermarket or hang down.

I thought the 440-6 held six quarts?

If I have too much oil, that could be why I have had a tough time sealing the valve covers?

IF your pan is a 6 quart pan and that is the amount you put in it, the dipstick would show about 1/2 quart low AFTER you crank it and let the filter fill up with oil.  That is where the other 1/2 quart is and your dipstick length is fine.    :bigshades:     :cooldancing:

 and your level is correct
