MOPAR prices......in the old days
« on: December 17, 2006 - 02:39:53 PM »
...like everyone here, I am constantly amazed by the pricing I see on EBay, auction pricing etc etc....but, at the same time I was shocked at the prices 20-25 years ago.....I appraised classic cars for many years and traded in MOPARS and Vettes for several decades too...just found some boxes of old paperwork a few days ago and thought I would share some of this....you older dogs will remember this stuff....(a few of the dates could be off by a year)

70 T/A....sold, 1974... $1,800
69 Daytona...purchased 1980 with 10K miles...$9K....normal ones selling for $5-6K
70 Challenger RT conv...buddy bought it in 1974 for $800...still has it with 39K miles
70 Superbird, 6-BBL ...purchased 1979 with 34K miles...$5,500...he still has it...now has 38K miles
70 T/A...my first one, 1984...$4,900....34K mile 4spd....like new
70 Challenger RT...red 383, driver....I sold it for $3K  1986
71 HEMICUDA...1987...red, show car...was in Hemmings for $15K....I thought it was too high
HEMI Superbird....sold 1988 for $52K....record price as far as I knew
69 HEMI Coronet...sold  in 1986 for $3,500...32K miles, minor rust
70 HEMICUDA....10K miles and triple black...owner asked me $10K, I walked away....1983
70 HEMI Challenger conv...Plum Crazy/white....owned by a Canadian....priced it to me for $25K about 1986-87...my Daytona was worth about $18K and I didn't have the extra $$$ to make the deal work
70 HEMICUDA conv(red)...all apart, in a semi-trailer...99% complete...1986....I turned it down for $10K, I knew it would cost quite a bit to finish it, and the car just wasn't worth it...
A12...6-PAK BEE...barn find...sold it for $2K the day before I got to see it...it was complete, just tired and dirty..1986

NOS 70 Challenger Shaker Hood/scoop etc etc -paid $1200... 1986...neighbor had these parts hanging in his barn for years...
NOS Challenger 70 RT grill - paid $300... 1986...still in the box
NOS T/A stripe kit...every piece...$50...about 1985

and not to get too far off the subject, but my first Corvette (1961) only cost $2,100 in 1975

Larry,
If any of those old records include the VIN numbers for the cars I would love to see them.

We think prices are high now - I got a feeling that in 10 years we're gonna look back at this time period and lament about the " low " prices on these Mopars.
