Cowl vent area color?
« on: December 18, 2006 - 04:00:58 PM »
Ok I have another question because I've seen nice 70 Challengers both ways. is the cowl area around the top of the fire wall  where the vents and wipers are supposed to be black or body color ? I've looked but I can't find any pictures of a car under the hood that I know are correct , it would be nice to have a reference then I wouldn't ask so many questions.  thanks

I believe they should be body color. The vents themselves are black.

I'm pretty sure it's suppose to be black (flat).

I painted mine body colour because I thought it looks better..... :2cents:

The cowl blackout comes and goes.

If it is a T/A, blackout for sure.

If it has any sign of original blackout, put it back, if not, don't.

I thought I had read that it depended on what the color of the car was. If it was a bright color then the cowl would be painted if it was a darker color then maybe not so. Here is a pic of my 70 Top Banana that had the cowl blacked out (there is blue over spray from a repaint)

:iagree: I seem to remember Richard Ehrenberg making that statement once.

I'm guessing rattle can?  :clueless: No diesel Ebodys here.  LOL.  It's always better to spray with a gun than a can if you are able to.

Talked with my Mopar guy last night, there were several in his shop and they had the black.  the pain cut down onto the firewall, he put it back the way it was.

beeing that ours is black...no help, but when repainted I will likely blackout that area too.

Mine was body color from the factory...
Mine was the body color.  It is interesting how the factory had different combinations...Do you think it may have depended on the plant they came from?

Have 5 at my shop right now,,  One  has blacked out  around the openings (top of cowl) the other 4 do not.. My guess is that its kinda hit or miss. Same applies as to how much of the radiator support
is painted black from factory.  Hmmmm.
