440, M1 or Indy 440-3 and dominator...will it fit???
« on: December 19, 2006 - 03:29:34 PM »
I have a got a question for you....  I've got a 74 Challenger, 440, and I am planning on using a dominator for a carb.  Will this fit under a rallye hood with either a M1 or an Indy 440-3 manifold?  The motor is in the stock location for now, nestled in with an AlterKtion...and I plan on moving the engine back anbout 2 inches, which may help me a gain a few fractions of an inch of clearance......(right now I'm lacking an intake manifold, so this info would be great to know)

I sure as heck hope it does fit, cause I'm not planning on running any other hood.  If need be, I'll sit the motor in the car lower to get a little hood clearance.  Best part is, I'm at that stage where that type of mod can be easily done.

TIA!

On my 72 cuda, I ran a indy 440 dominator intake a 1050 dom and indy heads all under the hood. I used engine plates tho with the engine setting in the normal location only like a 1/2 lower was all. The breather is a low profile tho. I would steer clear of the m1 dom if you have a choice. The indy will out perform it.

I dont see how that fit...did you have an air cleaner on it???
I have a T/A 6 pack hood and yes the 440-3 / dominator will fit but no room for air cleaner...

I know you don't want to run another hood, but a flat hood could be cut or use a shaker convertion to give clerance...

So, I assume the general concensus is that it will not fit, with either manifold?

true but can retain a factory look on the hood and allow for your breather to stick thru.

if you can get your hands ona flat hood (sometimes you luck up) you could sink another 700 into easy, or go with glass..

but you could cut the hood, and add the trim later too...O-well its a thought...

Thanks for the Idea, I may be entertaining that thought here shortly.  I can get a bolt on glass (flat) hood for about 300 bucks.  That's 200 cheaper than the Glass rallye hood.  I could use the extra 200 to go towards the shaker part......definately an option.  I'll have to do some test fitting first with my old stock rallye hood to see.  I really want to run a rallye hood, but this shaker thing seems to get more appealing as I think about it.  You got a shaker on your car?

yeah if you have the flat hood and just do the trim ring support kit thru HARMS it will set ya back $750.  Not sure how "Original" looking you want to try and keep...
