Second Life Happenings
« on: December 19, 2006 - 08:10:38 PM »
No, I'm not starting a religious thread! :grinno:  I'm sure most of you haven't heard of this before, but I was wondering if any of our technologically advanced members might be Second Life citizens?

For those that don't know what it is...it's a bit difficult to explain so I took this of the Second Life website...

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by a total of 2,087,725 people from around the globe.

    * From the moment you enter the World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.

    * You'll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow residents. Because residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other residents.

    * The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in-world currency, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online currency exchanges.

BTW...if you don't have a high speed connection and a pretty good processor and memory in your computer....I wouldn't bother signing up.   :icon16:

Mike, it is waaaay out there and it will melt your brain the first couple of hours your in there...but it's fun.

Andrew...I'll get you some snapshots in a bit.

I'm surprised Mark.  Most of the citizens are about your age and a little older.

Actually, I kind of thought the same thing until I was in there.  People are extremely friendly...we've already met most of our neighbors because they "flew" in to say hi.  That usually doesn't happen anymore in real life. :roflsmiley:

I think that is waay too much information Daytona!   :scared:  If you are referring to the bad side of Second Life...it's the same as the internet.  You can find it wherever you go...in every town, and everywhere on the internet.

Well, after a quick little Internet search it looks exactly like The Sims, but with other users...I used to play that game when I was bored, but ever since I reinstalled Windows I've yet to reinstall it. (That and I misplaced my CD for it.)

Here's their homepage, if anyone wanted to see it:
