Is there law enforcement in the game? I played the Sims for a couple months but got bored with it so I had to find ways of making it interesting... Like inviting all of my neighbors over, then turning on the oven, running outside, and then building walls over all the doors so they couldnt escape while the house went up in flames. fun times, fun times.

Is this taxed in anyway? Can you become a virtual IRS employee?

I get a bad vibe when it comes to role playing games though. People I know that are in to them are REALLY in to them and over time lose grips on reality.

With that said. I'm going to get an account right now  :lol2:

The only law enforcement are the Lindens.  Linden labs out in California owns Second Life.  Citizens (well over 2 million now), when they start an account have to agree to the behavior terms set out for SL.  The main one is about harrassing people or "griefing" as they call it. If you have someone bothering you, you just take a snapshot of the incident and report it to the Lindens.  They are very quick to investigate and deal with the offender.  We've had to do this with someone who came to our place and threw red barrels all over the ground then somehow removed our building.  We took the picture and reported it and the Lindens took care of it.  I haven't heard of any kind of taxation on SL...but I'm sure the IRS will come along sooner or later. :grinyes:

Since Red is very involved with SL in his real job, we've learned a lot over the past month and a half.  We tried to make a place for cc.com to hang out, but only a few people tried it out. So, we moved on to something else in SL.  We've created a ballroom for dancing...very elegant and very different than most of the places on SL (very sleezy).  People from all over the world come to get dressed up and dance there and they love it.  I've met people from Germany, Holland, England, Italy, Brasil, and Japan.

As for losing grip on reality...I guess for some, that is possible. I guess they do that with video games already.  I find it fun to meet people from all over the world.  There are other advantages to for different people.  For instance, I know one young lady (19), who comes to the ballroom to dance and meet people because she can't physically leave her house because of an illness.  In SL, she is able to get all dressed up and look like a million bucks, dance and meet interesting people.   I also know of a couple who are separated because of their jobs..one is in the US and one is in Europe.  They meet at the ballroom almost every night to chat and dance.  For them it's a lot more personal than chatting and a lot less expensive than talking on the phone.

Anyway...sorry to ramble. When you get in there KTO... look me up.  Liv Young

Well I signed up for an account last weekend and created a character. I think I need to stay away from the game though :)  Since college I've limited myself to only a couple hours a week playing on the computer. I think this would rob me  :) I got in to it Friday but then realized I had a choice of either playing or working on the Fury. I chose the car  :)

Anyway, I created a character that looked fairly similar to me, but then I got a few beers in me and started to have some fun with it.

Here I am in all my glory. The name's Vannelli Minnelli. I think I'm the only character on there that is actually taller, thinner and younger in real life  :grinyes: With the exception of the "slightly" exaggerated junk.

If you get a place for the cc group to chat let me know. I'll throw some pants on and come over.

That is hilarious!    :roflsmiley:  There is a cc.com beachhouse, you'll have to stop by.

My funniest endeavor was the picture in the dance club (although the sunbathing with the rose rates a close second). In the dance club, I jumped up on the ceiling lights and took a swan dive on to the dance floor. There must have been a glitch because I stayed laying on the ground. So I took full advantage of the hilarity of the situation and just layed there for about an hour and went out to eat. The chat that went on with the rest of the folks had some great comments like

"Why is there an old guy on the floor in his undies"

"Did that guy break a hip"

"I think he's fallen and cant get up"

I haven't laughed that hard in a while.

That is hilarious KTO.  I'm surprised you weren't ejected out of there.  Here's some pics of Liv modeling some free dresses for the ballroom.  Red, who loves photography, made the pics look really nice.

I had an idea for a use for the game. A buddy of mine has written a couple really good screen plays over the last couple of years. I have been messing around with Blender trying to make and animate the characters and story in to a short film. It was just too time consuming.

I think I could save a lot of time creating the characters and sets in second life. The scripting language looks like it resembles javascript so it shouldn't take me too long to master.

We'll see how much time I have.

Yep, that's how we got involved...Red's work (IBM).  He did a little work for the Circuit City grand opening a few weeks ago.  There is a growing number of big retailers getting involved... Nike, Sears, Nissan.  You can actually get a free Nissan and drive it around in SL...of course, my new Challenger is my favorite car! :grinyes:

I should have known that.. :banghead: Heck, i'm still trying to get myself comfortably learned with transferring files from one networked pc to another  :pullinghair:  I wish i had a thimbleful of some of the knowledge and abilities of those of us on the board who work in the IT industry. No giving up though, i keep digging away at it and every so often another piece of the puzzle makes sense :jumping: Didn't mean to hijack things with my self-directed rant :misbehaving:

Hi-jack away my friend.  If you really want to blow your mind...come on in to 2nd Life!  You'll be about 5 years ahead of your time.
