they are a decent carb When they work , they are actually big enough But the Phenolic fuel bowl almost always crack warp or leak

When working properly, the best carb around.
Finding one that is good, and getting the parts to tune it are the down sides. Check out Thermoquads.com Home of Demon Sizzler.

Treefrog do you have a TQ now? Are you looking to restore to OE? If not you would be better off IMHO to get something else BUT if so I have sucessfully rebuilt a few & recently learned a new trick that will help with a bigger cam.

I also have rebuilt a few and got them running and performing great.  All around great carb, imo.   Smallish primaries for decent fuel mileage, HUGE secondaries for great performance, and, oh yeah, don't forget that unforgettable sound of a wide open TQ on a well built Mopar engine....    :ylsuper:    :cooldancing:

The only thing I've found the thermoquad good for,is to slide under the wheel to keep the car from rolling down the driveway

We have had pretty good luck at the track with them.  Fastest time in the stock eliminator Aspen was 12:27 @ 109

Real easy to tune for weather conditions too

The question is 360cuda,would you use it if you weren't forced to.I'm sure there are alot of guys who can make them work,to run the classes they race in,but there sure is alot better carbs out there

I'm just saying they are not that hard.  I'm not in love with any particular air fuel metering system.

Hey 360cuda, are you racing a Stock eliminator ? I raced Mopar Stock/SuperStocker cars out here of the east coast for 25 years. T-Q is a great carb. When you have rules in class racing that's what your dealt with. As far as using another carb, of course I would use a Holley, parts are easy to get and easy to tune...

We raced that Aspen for about 5 years from '87 to about 92ish. I still have all the engine and transmission stuff but the body is long gone.

I do still have the '72 'CUDA body we raced before and then after the Aspen and I have the engine setup out of the 10 second Vagrant.
Everything I race has a 360 in it. Hence my name

Run a compression check on all cylinders, and then do a cylinder leakdown test.  Please report the results for analysis.

While I wouldn't rule out a carb problem, indications to me are that you have a vacuum leak.  Could be from the carb-to-manifold gasket, a warped throttle plate or even a bum hose.

I have run a few and never had problems with them. When they are running right they are a great mix of economy and when those huge secondaries kick in, performance. Not my favorite but definitely nothing to beat with a stick.

I love that sound. I've run them as much as I can. My Swinger FAST type car is getting one too. It sounds like the hood will get sucked down into there...lol.
There is no better carb IMO. The problem is finding one with a good base plate and intact middle. Then you need to find or make jets and stuff. But as far as street cars...they are #1 in my book. Just hard to find usable now.
