I though you guys might like to see pics of my latest project. A 70 cuda, If you visit my blog you can see the whole story. http://360.yahoo.com/brinkenterprise But now that it actualy looks like its going to work I thought i would share my channeling idea. I wanted to channel a uni-body! cut out the entire floor and frame and move it up 2 inches. Making the rockers the lowest part of the car. (So it will sit really low but still have good ground clearance!) Ten million hours into it I may rethink the idea but to late now.  :eek4:  :feedback:

Project overveiw. Must be everyday drivable. 6.1 hemi, air suspension, modern interior, clean up the body ect. (Sick Fish is my insperation.  :grinyes: )

I was going to use Magnum Force front and rear but I'm not convinced I want rod ends for every day. I've switched plans to go with RMS front with Air-ride bags and Air-rides Air Bar 4- link rear. Srt-8 Hemi and overdrive auto trans. The 4 bar will have to be altered for bigger tires I pushed the inner fenders in to the frame. It would be a shame not to use the space!

   I'm with you on the utilizing the space part. I got the Air-Bar from Reilly Motorsports (RMS is a dealer for ART), Reilly hooked me up with coilovers instead of the Shockwaves though.I bought my Alter-k before Bill made the provision for Air-Ride on his jig.
   I installed it, but was thinking if I used a MP spring relocation kit, moving the front leaf spring perch to the inside of the frame rail, I should be able to succesfully utilize a mini-tub. As you know the Air-Bars lower arms connect to the front leaf perch.
   I am going to get it running and drive it how I have it, and then put in the added work on the mini-tub and relocation before I get the paint/body done. I will also be welding the brackets instead of relying on the supplied bolts. 
    As it bolts up, as per Air-Rides instruction, the springs are at a really nice angle, better for corners?One concern I have is that our shocks, my coil-overs and your Shockwaves, will be almost straight up and down, worse in the corner? I don't know, I just want to drive it at this point.
    I'm glad you went with RMS on the suspension. Sick-fish was an inspiration for me too as well as Matt Delaney's 'cudas. Sick-fishs' inner fenders got all screwed up because Magnum Forces coil-overs bolt to the stock shock mount, that aint good for stock sheet metal. I was impressed by the rigidity of Bills upper shock mounts.
How were you planning on altering your Air-Bar?

Nice! I like seeing people think outside of the box and do radical things (performance wise) with these old cars.

I'd love to have a 71 Cuda with the XV treatment. Only time will tell if I've got the balls gut and wallet for it though.

Don't forget though

On the Sickfish project Troy designed the lower rocker taller then stock to give the 'CUDA a more channeled look then it actually was.  To me that throws off the overall look of the original design (makes the roof look too tall ect)

I like the car and love the effort but the roof just doesn't look quite right and the doors look like they are floating in space like a Cordoba or some other big car

The windshield is probably stock but it looks like it belongs on a minivan with the body modifications

What Over-Drive transmission brand are you going with? A518, Keisler, Gear Vendors?
If it's Gear Vendors, do a search for some of my threads before you go buying it.

I've been giving a lot of thought to the ART problem.( With big tires and mini tub.) I don't yet have the parts in front of me. I did pull the manual. The plan as I see it so far is to leave the spring in the factory location and just move the lower bar in to the frame pocket. Then fab a new mount at the diff. I think it may even line up on the outside with the ART bracket so you would only need to fab the inside mount. Does that make any sense?  :clueless: I'll try to post a pic! The brakets definetly need to be welded in. I think I will run a tube between the upper shock mounts to tie them together. You cant be to strong.  :grinno:

:iagree: That is what started this whole thing in the first place! I LIKE the long lanky body and didn't want to mess it up. We started joking about channeling a uni-body someone said "yea but you couldn't do that. you know how much work that would be"... I love a challenge
I have rolled the rockers to make them smooth, but I cut down the rail that sticks down, so it wouldn't add "thickness" to the body. Just clean it up. More pics, I think the third pic kinda shows how flat the underside will be.

I believe someone did a sublime cuda and pics were posted here somewhere... I'd like to do mine that way, but just too many projects and looks like ALOT of work... looks like very nice work :cheers:

I managed to get some good time in over the holidays! So I thought I would post a few more pics.
After the major job of channeling I thought I should put the doors and fenders etc. back on just to make sure every thing still lines up! IT does!! ;D
With it that far back together I had to see it at the new lower ride hight so I pulled the Challenger wheals off (just for effect) and set the rack at 5" front ground clearance and 6" rear and put the wheels in the wheel wells. The roof is under  48"  :woohoo: With the headers it will drop to 4 or 4.5" thats still better then the 2.75" on my convertible After so many hours welding and grinding seeing it sit there was a major boost.

I'm planing on using the auto-stick that they come with. I don't know what model that is? A friend has a SRT8 Magnum and the auto stick is fun to drive. ( put a pistol grip on top of course )

I also got the floor back in and a lot of little brackets fit. I had to make custom low profile fender braces to make sure they cleared the tires.
