I like to fish, but I am what you call a big time amatuer.  I like to go out and enjoy it more than get competitive, with all the latest tech.  5 lbs is definitely a very nice size  :2thumbs:

Goody, you gotta get a frog with all those lilly pads you got there. One of my favorite ponds growing up was covered, you couldn't hardly see the water.
So you were from the west coast? Did you here about the 24? somethin' pounder supposedly caught at Elsinore in San Diego? They said they threw it back after measuring it with a cheapo fish scale. They didn't get credit since it wasn't seen by another person and there were no photos. I used to be stationed in SD and didn't get the time to fish much, I was also stationed in Ventura for a bit and I did fish Lake Ojai where a 22 pounder was caught and recorded properly.
But I am a southern boy and never had as much fun as I did when I fished those farm ponds back home. I think Crappie is just about the most exciting when you get into a school of them.

Yea definately a lot of pads. They arent under there too much just yet. not hot enough, but when they do, you better bet ill be there  :grinyes:. I heard about that big fish, thats crazy on that. I'm from Valencia-ish california. So i fishe Piru, Pyramid, rarely Casitas, and primarily Castaic. I've caught a couple crappie on bass stuff, oh and a stupid 8lb bowfin  :faint:

I have seen quite a few bigguns on the lunkers page in the B.A.S.S. magazine from Casitas.
I have a crazy story about California fishing and one of the reasons I don't like thier laws that much:
Before my wife and I were married I took her out to Lake Otay Mesa in SD, she had never been fishing before. I loaded up the poles and went out. She was sitting away from the bank and I had a pole in and one on standby. She wasn't really into it. Then a game warden came up and asked for licenses, I showed him my military ID and thought it would suffice for a fishing license because I was told way back in boot camp that it sufficed for Hunter Safety Course(for weapons training) and fishing licenses. Well after we both got tickets for no licenses I reseached the military ID thing and it turns out that California is one of the few states that doesnt honor a military ID as a fishing license. I was told that it is just one of the perks of serving the country and took it for truth, an unwise assumption I guess. The warden told me if we both got licenses before the court date the judge may show leniancy and I disputed the future wife getting a ticket but he said two poles, two people, two tickets.
So we went to court with our newly aquired licenses and saw the judge. She said while she appreciated us getting the licenses she couldn't help us out. I paid for both of our tickets wich was over $800.00 and decided that since I had that much money invested in this girl already I should just go ahead and marry her.
So here we are, 4 years later, and now we check the local rules and regulations before we do anything.

yeesh what a bummer, $800?! thats crazy. i'd be furious. We've fished a few times w/o licenses out there, but were lucky. just like my buddy and i off the shore. No license out here in florida, lake is in my backyard  :jumping: . fishing is great in december, im dying until spring/bed (catch & release of course) fishing and some summer action
