Doesn't the detonation sensor automatically retard timing?

Thanks all for the postive comments.  It helps.

Ragtopchally, on a stock PCM yes it would.  Unfortunately the FAST XFI doesn't use the knock sensors

Haddixj, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you some pictures of the gauge setup. There's not much too it and it would be easy to recreate at home.  I wish I had taken a better video than this (and not had my finger covering part of the lens, I'm still getting used to the iPhone...lol) but here's a shot of the dash on the dyno. If you watch it in high def and full screen you can see the car hits 120 mph in 4th.

Travis this sucks as I already said I'm as sick as you apon  hearing that your motor broke so early.

I have always said as soon as I find a good excuse to put a strocker crank in my car I would, looks like I'll be learning from you on this one.

Yeah the new engine is installed and I'm slowing getting it dialed in.  I have about 70 miles on the new engine.  It's now a 426 ci stroker with ported heads and a larger cam.  It took me awhile to get the clutch bleed and its still not as good as it was, so I'm going to try and bleed it again now that I've put some miles on it.

With the larger engine, I bought a set of 42 lb injectors because I was worried about running out of fuel with the stock injectors.  So because of that the whole fuel curve needs modified. I’m trying to take it slow and not screw it up again, so I hired a guy who's a FAST expert and teaches EFI classes.   When I first got the car running he logged in remotely to my laptop and made real time changes while I was on the phone with him.  It was good because he would explain what each of the setting do at the same time.  So since then I’ve been driving the car under specific conditions (for example, holding 2000 rpm for 30 seconds, then 2200 rpm for 30 seconds etc.) while data logging. I send the tuner the log file and he sends me back a new tune.  I'm on the 9th revision now and it’s getting dialed in however there are still areas of the fuel curve that need work.

On Friday for the first time I did some full throttle runs from 2000 rpm to 5300 rpm in 3rd gear.  The car pulls really, really hard.  That's from ~30 mph to ~85 mph and from the data log it took 6 seconds.  Once it’s all tuned it should be an easy 475 rwhp.

It actually has a slight lope in the idle now with the larger cam.

Here's how it sounded with the stock 6.1L

The engine looks the same externally so no new pictures to post.  I’ve been meaning to take some video when I’m out driving the car, but I’ve been focused on other things.  I’m just glad to have it running again.   :)

While the engine was out I removed the Nu-Relics power window kit (same as XV’s kit) and installed an Electric Life power window kit.  The Electric Life kit works good.  For whatever reason I could never get the Nu-Relics working on the passenger side and so I’m much happier with the Electric Life kit.  I took a bunch of pictures of that and some video and I’ve been meaning to make a power window post.  I might be able to get to that later in the week.

So as a post-morten to the old engine, you were running way too lean for too long?  What A/F ratio is ideal?

Ragtop... it was way too much timing.  These new hemis only like 22 - 24 max.

Just an update for those of you that have read the whole thread including the power window kit saga.  Here's what I ended up doing:

Hi John,

New engine is running good.  Full throttle tune is pretty close.  The car is scary fast now.  I'm anxious to get it out on a track.  I've been driving it like once a week, but I really need to get the AC installed so that I can drive it more.  That will probably be my next project.

Plus I still have a ton of little things to do and fix/clean up.  I had the dash apart for a while and I sent my dash switches to Jim (Slotts) to have him rebuild them.  He did a fantastic job and now the wipers actually work.  So I cleaned up the wipers and installed them.  About the only other significant thing I've accomplished is I installed 6-point harnesses in the car for the track.  I'll use the 3-points on the street.  The Recaro seats have a pull out leg extension, so when I had the seats upholstered I had them add in a slot for the crotch strap to pass through.  It worked out good and when not using the harness it allows me to push the crotch strap down out of the way.  I used the same normal seat belt locations for the lap belt.
