70 Coronet Super Bee convertible clone
« on: December 26, 2006 - 10:34:18 PM »
Anyone follow the Coronet line? I have a deal on a 70 Coronet 500 convertible. It's been restored as a Super Bee clone. Nice job, good paint, great inetrior, correct hood. power top, still needs 440 motor (has original 318). Anyone know what it's worth? I need to know ASAP. Thanks! Sal

...saw a BEE vert clone (orange) a few months ago, advertised in the $28K range....no idea how nice it really was or any other details at all...

...70 Bee stripes always looked incomplete/odd to me....look like they should have been extended onto the doors ...

I agree about the stripes. I don't believe they built any convertible bees, should be restored as an R/T with the bumble bee stripe. But that's no biggee. It's a nice car. Looking at $25,000 on it, so I wanted to make sure that it's worth it. Any other opinions? Thanks guys!

$25K will barely buy a PT Cruiser....would much rather have the vert....looks nice

...no Bee verts were built to my knoweledge

...I guess this car would be considered a "Phantom"  instead of a "Clone" ???

Yeah, paint job is said to be fresh. I'm counting on those being decals. I may peel them and add the correct bumble bee stripe. I'll sell off the bees and add the R/T's. Of course I'll be looking for a 440 motor now. Though I did consider picking up a 6.1 Hemi out of a SRT8 I found yesterday. I'm almost afraid to begin looking into what kind of mods that would take though.

If your gonna turn it into an R/T, you will also need to swap the hood.

I believe the R/T's came with this hood and the optional air grabber hood. I've seen a few legit R/T's with this hood. But, I do like the air grabber better. I'll keep my eyes out for one. I have not yet commited to this deal. As I said, I want to make sure it's worth the $20-25,000. But I have a good feeling it is.

Remember, you're still buying a Coronet, you're not buying a Bee or an RT. Great looking car, but for that money you can buy a real, restored Bee. Just my 2 cents...

72 Charger Rallye (318 auto)
71 Charger RT

Not a droptop R/T....project car R/T droptops bring that kind of money, restored cars are in the 40's easy.

I had a 70 500 converted to a one of none superbee ragtop a few years back...383 4 speed/ FC7 with white top and interior. If that car is nice, i think the number is in the ballpark. I'd be a little more comfortable in the low 20's for it, but 25 is not way out of line, just depends on how well the car was restored.

70 R/T's came with that hood standard, the air grabber was optional. I owned a 32k mile survivor R/T with that hood.

we had a heck of a time selling this and it was about as nice as you could get. finally sold it at kruse auction in Auburn, got a little less than 25k before the fees.

About five years ago I wwas looking at a 70 Coronet R/T convertable with a 383 4spd. It needed a top and a paint job but he only wanted 9 grand. i passed on that one and I am still kicking myself today. :dupe: Do i think 25 is too much, with having to put another 2 to 3 for a 440 yes. But if you could pick it up for 20 and have done for 25 then the price would be right. Just my  :2cents:

I took a look back at some the past year's auctions. I found a restored 318 Coronet 500 convertible that sold for $30,000. I also found another currently available at 36,000, this one an R/T clone. He may be a little out there at 36,000, but I kind of think I'll be alright at 20-25,000. You are correct I am figuring the $25,000 with the 440 conversion, though I wasn't too sure how much that would entail. K member? springs?

Was not factory correct with the 383...only R/T engine options are 440 or hemi...no 383's.

This is a 70 Coronet...they bring more $$ than 68-9 Coronets and Satellites.

That split grille on the 70 Coronets is either a love or hate thing...I happen to love em.
