...my first time was about 1986-87.....I ran a wholesale supply business and during the winter we rented out extra space in the warehouse to store classic cars ....a friend of mine had a '69 HEMI Charger 500 that we stored year round next to my Daytona and AAR CUDA....the HEMI 500 was red/blk vinyl top/blk interior, automatic(it was used in the Chrysler promotional materials).....the car was nicer than new....the owner, Dwayne, would come by to pick up the car on weekends and when he was done playing with it he would drop it off at my house on Sunday afternoons....later in the day, I would take it to the warehouse, park it in it's spot and cover it up...I always drove it very, very carefully till one Sunday he asked me what I thought of the HEMI and it's performance....I told him it was great up to 25mph, because that was all the faster I ever drove it....he wanted me to "wring her out" just one time for grins....that evening, about dusk, I took the HEMI Charger 500 down the road a different direction than usual....I took off from a stoplight and let the HEMI do it's work....I felt like I was Chewbacca in the Star Wars movie....I hit HYPERSPACE
.... it seemed like the rest of the world was going in reverse while I had that big HEMI crankin', and my foot planted on the floor...I was hooked
...at that time, the car was purchased for the staggering sum of $6,500 and sold several years later for $9,000.....last I knew(a couple of years ago) the car currently resides somewhere in a giant collection in the north eastern part of the USA....
...sorry, I don't have any pix of the car
...about a year later I purchased a 70 HEMI Challenger RT/SE....JS29R0B100015....first one ever built....I wound that HEMI up quite a few times during the decade or so I owned it....NOTHING LIKE A HEMI
