Fuel Tank Question
« on: December 28, 2006 - 08:12:24 AM »
I am ordering up parts and need a new fuel tank.  There are two types - One being and ECS and the other not.  I believe the ECS has something to do with emmision controls.  Does anyone know what the differences are in these tanks.  I believe I have a non-ECS tank but want to make sure before I order one up.

Thanks -

The non-ECS was for 1970 only, so that's what you want. 1970 didn't have all the vapor return lines.

I thought there was two 70 tanks, one for Cal and and a standard tank for the rest of the states, mine is a CAL car and it has three rubber hoses coming out of the tank up into a blind pipe into the boot and back into the tank and fume evaporator line to the filter on the pass side valve cover and also has an evaporator pot inside the tank.

Pulled my 73 tank last week, not a bad job, but the tank is FUBAR.

where is the best place to get a replacement, and should I reconnect the vapor thingy?

$159 on Ebay, $215 everywhere else. Get the vapor one if you don't want to fill up then have gas expanding all over the place.  I have a '70 and only fill it if I'm driving far away right after filling it up. I've seen full tanks ruin a good paint job.
