Manual Steering Column

Looking for a manual steering column for an E-body, 70-74, floor or column, driver condition.

As long as the main shaft is in usable condition I am interested! :bigsmile:

Why don't you just use the adapter which allows you to use a ps column with a manual unit.  That is what I am using and it fit and works great.

Why don't you just use the adapter which allows you to use a ps column with a manual unit.  That is what I am using and it fit and works great.

Well I have manual steering and a manual column, but it looks like some one cut and welded the main shaft at some point in time.  Possibly to convert from power to manual, not sure.

I would like to replace the column or at least that shaft, just to be on the safe side.

If I can not find a decent used column, then I may look at using a power column and the adapter, but that is a little more than I would like to spend right now.

I gotta power shaft you can slide out the 3" or so. 25 bucks plus shipping.

CudaJas,   Did you try extending your column shaft out?   Most of the shafts will pull out or push in to the correct length for manual or PS.  You just need to change the coupler on the end.  Some of those shafts look welded on the end from the factory.

I stock car raced a couple of E-Bodies and I found that the center shaft is hollow. The shaft is made to collapse when hit in the front. The shafts are held together by plastic rivits. Those rivits can be sheared off and the shaft will move in and out with no problem. No need to change columns to go from manual to power or vice versa.

Just my .02 cents.

I have heard that as well...but I have also heard that the diameter of the shafts (manual vs power are different) and will only fit into there respective  couplers.

Although, I am willing to give it a shot if I can find a power column or just the shaft at the right price.
