ground mounting location
« on: January 02, 2007 - 02:54:46 PM »
Hi, I don't know if this is the correct forum but I am reinstalling the engine wiring harness and don't have a correct picture of where and what size fastner used to mount the harness ground strap and I think one of the battery ground wires as well.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

From your picture, it looks like there is a threaded hole on the right for the lug to connect to. That would be your ground. Your "-" battery cable will connect to the front of the block on top. There should also be a secondary smaller wire that will bolt to the body up near the driver's side headlight.

Crappy pic, but in the lower right corner is where the "-" battery cable connects to the block of a 440.

Thanks for the answer and pic.   Sorry but the pic I posted has to be rotated 90d.   As with many answers comes more questions.  Does both the negative battery ground cable and the engine harness both hook to the same threaded hole in my pic?  Thanks John

Thats the nut for the smaller wire off the battery cable, my harness ground reached the same spot so I put both there, not sure if it's "correct" but didn't see any other obvious mounting spot? Rich.
stole this pick from the eng bay thread.

John,  If needed, I can post a pic of where my "other" "-" cable is on my Challenger. Is that what you have, or do you have a Cuda?  In answer to your question, NO they need not be mounted in the same place. The whole body is ground.

Thanks for the info...Yes its a Challenger.  Chryco, on the 1/4 x 20 thread, is the built-in washer large or small for the connection. and not to be too anal, does the battery wire attach first to the core support and then the wiring harness or visa versa.  Sorry, but I am trying to build a "correct" car.  Thanks  JOhn
