exterior rear window weather strip sealing problems
« on: January 02, 2007 - 05:06:26 PM »
After reasmbling my challenger last spring I noticed this summer that when it rains or I wash the car the carpet by thge rear seat floors gets wet. I figured out that it was coming from the rear side windows. Has anyone else had this problem? Did I just install the m wrong? I did buy the set from year one so I figured they must be correct.

Are you talking about the seal along the top of the window, or the seal between the front and rear window? Any pics would help.  :grinyes:

I will try to get so pics tomarro. The seal is the one at the base of the rear side windows between the glass and the fender, Year one sells them as a 4 or 8 pieces set (inner and outer) for all the rolling windows the fronts seal great it just the back set that dosn't seal up right.

I may be wrong but the side window does not seal out water completely, what gets by must drain out through openings at the bottom of the rocker panel where the floor pans meet up. Those drains look like wrinkles but if you poke up in there & flush I bet a buch of crud comes out & will solve the problem.

I will have to take a look tomarro for the drains. Do they look like the ones in the rear Quarter for the trunk?

No, they are not obvious, look like ripples in the metal, there are about 4-6 from the front fender to the rear wheel well.

Sorry these are the best pics I could find that I had on me. The one with the two drains is aloang the rocker. The other is under the rear quarter window.

Did you replace the plastic sheeting on the inside of the panel area before you put the panels back on??

Take your backseat side panel off on the side that has water on the floor and stick your hand in the gap, If the drain is plugged you'll have water sitting in there every time it rains or you wash your car. Then every time you turn or brake you flood your carpet.
I've had a heck of a time trying to get mine to totally drain right. Someone had posted on here that they drilled a hole at the dog leg area under the car it will fix the problem for them, but I just keep putting that off as a last resort.
 Good luck with it.

Thanks guys. The drains where plugged tight. Thanks for the pics they helped alot. I didn't replace the plastic, should I ? I think in spring when I move the car to a more accessible part of the shop I am going to try Evil72's idea of taking off the panels to make sure it drains right.
Thanks
Todd
