Power Booster mounting question
« on: January 03, 2007 - 08:51:57 AM »
Hello to all,
I am thinking about replacing the manual brakes on my 70 Challenger with Power.
I have a couple of good 72 and 73 power boosters but they both have 4 studs to mount on to the firewall with.
The problem is the firewall has 2 studs that seem to be pressed in.
If I do decide to mount the power booster on this car it looks like I will need to cut these flush with the firewall and then drill them out.
Anyone have any solutions ?

thanks
Ben

personally I am not a fan of power brakes at all so I would leave them alone
are the studs pressed into the reinforcement plate on the fire wall or possibly into the pedal braket inside the car ? either wya you sould be able to unbolt the piece you need out of the way

They are pressed into the pedal bracket. I have a couple of brackets but they all have the 2 studs.
I am considering just running manual and keeping it simple at this point. I do have all of the stuff I need to set up for power, linkage etc.

I guess there are brackets out there w/o the studs I just cant find one.

If they are pressed in you should be able to knock them out with a hammer, just like you would with wheel studs.

I put power and discs on my 70 Chally after the 11"x3" heavy duty drum brakes faded on me after a high speed highway run.  If you have all of the parts, do it and don't turn back. You'll be glad that you did.
