What worth more - 70 T/A 340 6 pak Clone or R/T 440-6 Clone?
« on: January 03, 2007 - 03:55:31 PM »
I know what some of your opinions of the good ole WIW threads but I am looking for some opinions.

I am in the middle of doing a resto on a clean AZ Challenger 318 car and I am torn about what direction to go in.  I am planning on repainting it the original color which is FK5 Dark Burnt Orange.  I am also leaning towards keeping the interior Burnt Orange as well.  It's either that or white interior since the car came with a white vinyl roof and I think that really looks nice with the Burnt Orange.  My next dilemna is which powerplant to put in her.  I've got a 440 that I can drop a real 1970 Six Pack setup on and make it into an R/T Clone.  Or another route I can go is build up a 340 stroker that I've got and make it into a T/A clone.  What do you guys and gals think has more appeal to the "average" muscle car buyer?  I plan on making the car pretty much show quality but not one of those crazy "every hose clamp and belt is right" sort of resto.  Basically the car will be a great looking and running car that should win some trophies and thumbs up for the new owner.

Any Constructive ideas would be appreciated - THANKS  :working:

That's a toughie.  :clueless:

I want to say the T/A would be worth more, since few were produced... but a 440 6-Pack can bring the money too.  :grinyes: If you have a nice Rally hood and all to go with it, I lean towards the 440-6. Unless you would make this into a "shaker" car, then I guess that would bring serious $$$.

Comparing parts prices I would say the 440 + 6 clone is cheaper to build.

I like them both. Since my car is a 440-SIXPACK I guess that's my answer. It just depends on what YOU want. :grinyes: Just remember there is no replacement for displacement. :grinno:

Dave - thanks for the reply but it's really not what I want at this point.  When the car is done ,I'll need to sell it - basically I am trying to get into the head of any potential buyers.  I use my hobby of restoring these cars as my "overtime" work since I am a salaried employee on my job and my wife's tastes exceed my salary.  As a result, as much as I love these cars and love building them, I've never been able to keep one that I've built.  You could say I have Dom Perignon taste on a Coors Light budget

A clone is a clone,  you would have to price out both as an original and set prices from there. I cant see there being much difference in a big or small block. My preferance would be a big block, you should run a pole and see what the mob says.   To bad you cant keep one, not many cars get the second look like an e body on cruise night.   :2thumbs:

...if you are doing a clone,  and wanting to sell it....I would seriously consider another color combo....Burnt Orange has never been one of the more desired colors....340/440...which ever you go...try red//black/orange/pink/plum etc etc...

Both engines will sell good... but the color will hold you back.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I thought about the color issue as well but have never done one in Burnt Orange and it is such an awesome looking color when it's new and done nicely.  Plus, I did a little poll (I don't remember if it was here or Moparts) and the majority of the people that responded said keep itthe original color andmost felt that Plum Crazy, Hemi Orange and red were too over done.  Of course, there is always black :clueless: :clueless: :clueless:

Funny thing is - a couple of months ago I posted a poll on the color subject.  Burnt Orange was the overwhelming winner :clueless:
