FINAL CHAPTER Whats up w/Torsion Bar Prices?
« on: January 05, 2007 - 09:48:12 PM »
SEE BELOW

I have planned at some point to replace my torsion bars but wanted to wait until the car was closer to drivable. Suddenly torsion bar prices seem to be going up dramatically. While there have always been some exceptions most were priced from $150-$200 a set. Today for instance at Summit Racing, who is usually competitively priced, the MP sets are $299.  Are there inferior/cheaper products that I have been seeing?

While I'm on the subject what diameter do you guys recommend for a 340 street driven Challey?

I noticed the same thing a couple weeks ago and I also didnt see the 1" bars I wanted >:(. I dont know why the prices have almost doubled but maybe someone here does. As for the t-bar for a 340, I would say .92s would do you good

Wow, good thing I bought mine last year...As Killer_Mopar has said, I'd recommend the .920's for a sb car. (bought a set for my 340 Chally, too.)

www.firmfeel.com  has them for $225 for the set.  I think $100 apiece is what decent ones have cost for awhile ~

Thanks! I definately dont want anything bigger than 1 inchers and even then I keep 2nd guessing myself on the 1 inchers. I really wish that there was a .98 bar for e-bods. O' well, I have to decide between .96" and 1". Im thinking that since I will be around 150 lbs lighter then stock on the front end that the .96s will be fine....especially with front and rear sway bars.

How does one know which bars they are buying and if they are the good ones???

As far as figuring optimal size I found this you might want to read.
http://www.arengineering.com/articles/tbartango.html

BASICLY
"A handy rule of thumb is to pick a bar that has a wheel rate that is 1/10th of the front-end weight. For instance, a 3600 pound car with 50% of the weight on the front end has a front end weight of 1800 pounds. A good starting point for the wheel rate would be 1800/10 or 180 lbs./inch bar. Closest bar available for the B body is the 1.00 inch bar with a wheel rate of 186 lbs./inch. For an A body, the 0.920 bar at 150 lbs./inch is probably the best choice. The next size up is the 0.990 bar at 200 lbs./inch which is probably a tad too stiff for most folks. Remember, the A body bars are shorter than the B body bars which makes them stiffer."

Found what appears to be an excellent deal & have placed an order with http://www.monicattichrysler.com/comersus/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=224&curPage=1
They seem to have an excellent selection of torsion bars priced at $126.65 a set which is by far the lowest price I have found. On top of that the shipping/handling charge was only $8.95.
SOOOO if your in the market I would suggest checking them out.... NOW!

Took me a while to decide between the .96s and 1.0s but I bit the bullet and ordered the .96s.......at the very least they will perform better then stock  Works out well because I will be giving my old .92s to my dad for his 340 Challenger. Now all I have to do is buy the damn $30 tool that doesnt gouge the bars....ohh well I had to place an order soon at Mancini anyway :P. I just hate buying tools that I only use once or twice in my life :swear:

you do NOT need to T bar tool to remove T bars , just undo the nut holding the LCA in place & pry the LCA & T Bar back together & the bar will slide right out

If money changed hands they are yours at the old price in my book. I would tell them they should complete the sale and just conider it the last torsion bars sold at the old price. You could be THE last guy that bought the $126.00 T-bar set. :)

Haha did 'roger' send that to you? because I got the same email too and I thought he was going to say that they were sold out.... Anyhow, I still bought them because the second cheapest set I could find ended up costing more with shipping and I had ordered a couple little items that they had good prices on.
