Anybody have skidpad numbers for a stock Challenger or Cuda?
« on: January 06, 2007 - 12:08:39 PM »
Well after talking about torsion bars on another thread, I got to wondering what a Stock Challenger R/T or T/A would pull on the skidpad. I tried looking it up on google with no success, so Im wondering if anybody here knows.

Stock 440 R/T 0.67g right and 0.69g left.

Terrible for a performance car but about average for a US car of that time.

Wow, that is pretty bad....I thought that the R/Ts would at least break into the .7s which I hope the T/A at least does (Barry?). I was shooting for at least .8 with the setup I plan on running which is front and rear sways, edelbrock shocks, .96 t-bars, and *hopefully* a set of Eagle F1 GSD3s......

You will already pull better numbers just by using better the better tires.  Wide sticky low profile tires of today will out perform any bias ply of yesteryear.  It's just a fact.  I'll bet you would be close or at .90g.  Maybe a little higher.

According to SPORTS CAR GRAPHIC magazine, June 1970 , the AAR Cuda they road tested pulled a 0.75g right and a 0.76g left on the skidpad. See the attachment:

They may not be the fastest around the skidpad but they sure look good  :cooldancing:

Well I uprated my 440 R/Ts suspension about 30% with a 1-1/8th front sway bar and 3/4-inch rear sway bar. Then added 8-inch wide wheels front and 10-inch rear.
With a few mods the front/rear weight is about 55%/45%.

It goes around corners like it is on rails now. ;D

I installed an Alter-k-tion setup and a triangulated four bar. I also have good low profile rubber on my 17x8 and 17x9.5 wheels and I pull 0.00g's. I am thoroughly upset with these numbers. It has only been pushed in and out of the garage, engineless. I can't stand it. Aaagghhhh!

Well the T/A challenger should do the same as AAR cuda on the skidpad :clueless: ...Put some better tires on and you are in the 0.8g. Thats pretty good even for modern cars.

Here is an interesting article about modern vs old...challenger vs viper. They said that HEMI challenger R/T might do 0.71g on the skidpad  :ylsuper:

This a great topic, if tires that are available today where available then I'm sure the .8g is possible and a high 13 quarter mile.
I would like to know what the wind drag or how aerodynamic a  e-body was. Does anyone know? Just from driving mine at high speed on the Hwy. they seem to have pretty good down force. :clueless:
