What car insurance do you use?
« on: January 06, 2007 - 07:02:28 PM »
Got my renewal from Hagarty's, it is $160 for agreed value of $12k.  They have been going up every year.

What other company's are out there, and what are you paying?

Thx

I just use my regular insurance company that does my daily driver.
My cars, ( I have a ughh Chevy too ) my brother's 'Cuda and my Mom's Firebird are all covered by the same company.
As a matter of fact, I have 2 uncles with Vettes that use him too.

It happens to be State Farm - I have $15,000 at about $52 a half. I think you get a little more "buying discount" by using one company for all my cars. Plus I have extras like covered tows - it's embarassing but I've needed it.

As a nosey question, have you had your car appraised? 12,000 for a good first gen E-bod seems a little low. I know a lot goes into an agreed value, but when it's all said and done 12,000 for shopping, buying and possibly shipping seems a little low. ( just my opinion )

I have Hagerty also.  I checked some other companies and they seemed the best for my situation.  My regular company wanted twice as much to insure my Cuda.

I use State Farm, same as my regular car. I pay $75/year for an agreed value of $22,000.

I know $12k is definitely low, it would cost me at least 20k if the car was totaled.  I'll have to call my insurance company to check what they offer.  Last time I did this the price was crazy high.

When you check with your insurance company, make sure you tell them that you want specialty or classic car insurance. State Farm is really reasonable for this, but they want you to agree to keep it under so many miles a year ( I think I agreed to 1000 miles as I only go to local cruises in the  summer months). You will also need to agree on a value. I just print a page from the NADA site and use the average value (none of my cars are show cars). If you want high value, they will usually ask you to get an appraisal. Don't let them just insure it as a daily driver, or the price will be really high.

I have been with State Farm for 30+ years on all of my family cars and the house.  They refused to insure the Beast because it is modified.  I went with Grundy and got a good deal.  $500.00 a year, unlimited mileage, and appraised value (last year) of $79,900.00.  Great coverage, very few restrictions....    :cooldancing:

I have American Collectors Insurance  and pay 245.00 for agreed value of $36,000 on my 71 Challenger Rt and pay $199.00 for agreed value of $30,000 on my 70 Cuda. This is for a year and may not be the best deal out there right now but I know people who have had claims with this insurance company and never had any problems with them. It is classic car insurance and I'm limited to 5,000 miles a year.

You may want to double check that mileage because I have State Farm right now (planning to change soon) and the mileage is much, much less.

I go with Allstate ... same as my daily drivers.  Works out to about a buck a day for full coverage when I put it on active status.  This time of year it's inactive, verrry cheap with limited coverage (fire, theft, etc).  Come Springtime I call my agent and tell him it's on the road and the meter starts running.  Insured for "replacement value".  I've got 4 musclecars and this seems to be the best for my situation.

I'm still on my parents plan (Yeah, yeah, give me a break, I'm only 20)  and I cant get stinking collector insurance because I havent had my lisence for 10 years.  WTH?  We have AAA, and its the cheapest for our 6 vehicles we insure.  I cant wait till I turn 25 and all that "you havent had your lisence long enough" bs goes away.   >:(

I had Allstate insurance on my home for several years, and found that they will do everything they can to avoid paying a claim, including using the 'Act of God' clause. I kid you not! If they were the last insurance company on the face of the earth I would go without insurance before giving them my business! :nono:

I've had my Cuda with Hagerty since I got it. It's been a while, but I believe the premium was $160 for $12,000 agreed value. I've never had a claim with them, but from what I've read on the 'net about them they are very good about settling claims.

I have used American Collectors since 1993. I pay $ 601.00 a year for both may cars.
Challenger-$ 60,000.00 and GTX-$ 30,500.00.
I also heard good things about their claims and I for one hope I never have to fine out for myself.

I would never consider AllState, they have scr*wed me and many others in Florida on home insurance.  They gladly accepted premiums for years, after the hurricanes they are continually dropping policies.  They then offer policies from one of their "sister" companies at triple the rate.

I'm getting a quote from Gundy, it looks like it may be better deal than what I have.

Thx!
