I did a big post on this awhile back.. First off get a cetified appraisal. Then you NEVER have to play the he said/she said/ we said game. I compared all the companies available in my state (not all companies are nationwide). Long story short I alo went with the guys that carry my home and daily drivers AMERICAN FAMILY Without getting into real specifics Between Miss NIKKI and The BIG Girl its less than 1K a year for over 100k value - full coverage . Good driving record helps too!

I agree with most of whats already been said about State Farm. I have an agreed value for my Barracuda & Challenger and due to antique tags (VA) the rate is very low. It is actually lower than Hagarty's and I guess because I have State Farm for all my vehicles the rate is very reasonable and they have been very easy to work with. It's all about how bang for the buck!! :money:

For what it's worth for any other Kiwis on board, I'm using John Rae Insurance.
Awesome prices which come July will become a lot cheaper (turning 25).

Both the Challenger & 'Cuda are on Classic car coverage. Covering everything from fire to theft. I have them set up for 10,000 miles a year which is how I can get them insured for the value I wanted. Which with the two cars works out at 384 miles a week between cars. If I don't drive that week or what not it carries on to the next week. So between driving the two cars (plus the Jeep) I'll comfortably make the "restriction".

I'm with Silver Wheels. About 4 years ago here the general automotive insurance companies were crying poor mount and threatened to pull services out if they wre not allowed to put a "soft-tissue damage" cap on claims and allowed to raise rates. The cap is $2500 maximum and you can go as far a losing limbs and still be labelled soft-tissue damage. The average insurance rate went up by 60% and ther have been storys of 400% for some folks. At the same time the multi-vehicle discount was dropped from policy holders. That is that every vehicle cost the same to insure regardless of useage or season.

Luckily Silver Wheels insures classics and antiques at phenominal rates. I'm paying $246 a year to insure the Charger, road runner, and a Wildcat convertible. This coverage is for the full year and the only caveat on useage is that it cannot be the primary vehicle and cannot be used for daily to and from work.

I have state farm also, when i went to switch companys I had just renewed my regurlar plates, was off of work and did not have the $$ to change them out for hobbyist plates. they listed the duster as limited use full coverage for around $25 a month.I think im only allowed 1000 miles a year, but the odometer dont work anyways lol. my dusters body is of limited value (74 with some shady body work) so i wasnt worried about getting hosed if the car gets wrecked as long as I can keep the driveline.

I use JC Taylor, just make sure you do not  have "stated" value coverage , you need "agreed upon" value coverage.

I use State Farm for my daily drivers, home insurance and the Chally. It's a $110 a year for the Chally with agreed upon value $45,000 and comp.(fire, flood, thieft, broken glass, etc) I'm allowed 2000 miles a year. I've used them for other classic cars, too and am very happy with them.

I use JC Taylor but want to switch to Hagerty.  I have heard wonderful things about Hagerty and how fast they take care of claims.  I hope I never need to use it but I would rather be with a company with a good claims reputation.

I have Hagerty on my classic cars with an agreed value of $16,500 on my Challenger and $10,000 on my Fury. The premium is $230.00 a year. I have had a claim with them and they were great! (and did not raise my premium). From my experience I would recommend them. Also, I am going to look at raising the agreed value of the Challenger this year.

Thanks for the American Collector's suggestion.

$120 for $20k agreed value, $500 deductible!

Hagerty wanted $180, $60 bucks might not sound like that much, but that 50%!

I use Hagerty. I did get a quote from Grundy this year, but decided to stay with Hagerty. Grundy was about $300 a year cheaper on my two cars, but I had to go thru the apprisal thing again, get all the reciepts up on the mods, blah blah blah. One thing to remember about insurance is to be sure about how many miles you can drive your car. It doesn't do you much good to save a buck on the premium if you will be limited to just a few miles. I put 4500 miles on my GTO in 2006 so a 3000  mile limit would not work for me.

Bill,

That's interesting. I have Grundy. I went with them because of no appraisal. I just sent them a few pics, and a agreed upon value. This was 6 years ago, so maybe they changed their policy.  :clueless: I don't think I have a mileage limit either. I just have to use the car for shows, and not as a back-up vehicle. Yeah, right.

Good input, American puts a 2500 mile limit.  They also require EVERY driver in household to have 10yrs experience.

It's definitely more restrictive, but I probably put less than 1000 miles on my car, so it works for me.
