Looked at another car
« on: January 07, 2007 - 04:41:41 PM »
My son and I wen't and looked at another challenger today. It was a 70 318 4spd car,and it came with more rust than my current challenger.Which I didn't think was possible, but was a total mess. The story was the last owner ticked off his girlfriend and she went nuts on the car, every panel was smashed and the frame was ----well rotted from one end to the other. It still had the 318 but no trans, the interior was gutted and all the chrome was dinged up,windshield and back window smashed out.It had rot in the roof, floors, trunk and cowl. And he wanted $2200,I am sorry for the rant but that car wasn't worth $2 and I am bummed by the prices people want for total junk. And if I wen't by what people want for junk, then the stash of parts I have must be worth Million's------The Clown

If it is how you describe, I hope nobody picks this car up for what he's asking. I sold a 70 R/T rust free shell, fenders, doors, and 2 grilles for $2,500. Of course it was to a friend and I knew he would do it right, but this guy has a 318 car that is a rust bucket.

This story reminds me of this guy at the Nats in 2005 who had a '70 Challenger convertible - about the only thing worthwhile on this car was the engine, a 360 which sounded OK. NOM of course. Primer brown, no top, practically gutted interior, needed full quarters, doors, fenders; lots and lots of bondo everywhere- the flat hood  was OK, I think. Anyway, the guy was asking $ 17000.00 ( yep, that's right, $ 17000.00 ! ) for this piece of crap! Incredible how some people will try to rip you off...

It's morons like these that are keeping many people from being able to buy decent cars at reasonable prices... :villagers:

:iagree:  I couldn't believe how much rust your current '70 had, so for you to say it is a heap it must be really bad.  As for that price, it sounds like nothing more than a parts car worth no more than $150.00.  Maybe the owner should see the decent '70 318 auto my neighbor bought for $350.00 then place a price on his rust that used to be a Challenger.

I have been amazed at what people want for Challenger and Barracuda cars that need everything to restore them. That is what is stopping me from buying another project Challenger or Barracuda right now.

I saw a 72 Barracuda (BH) 318 auto at BIG Power Meet in Sweden (the largest US car meet in Europe).
The selller tires selling it of as a 'Cuda. The car had a 440 in it that need to be rebuilt and it also needed: fenders, replaceing rear qaurter, New interior, grill, raditor suport, etc and the body has lots of rust/rot.
He wanted $10,000 for it!!!

I guess it works for anything that you sell . . . you can aks as much as you want but in the end its the buyer that determines its value.  What is someone willing to pay??  That is the value . . .  :grinyes:   Pile of rust doesn't rank to high in my book of value . . .  :grinno:
