70 challenger interior question
« on: January 07, 2007 - 11:28:36 PM »
If a 70 challenger had a black and white interior, like black dash, headliner, but white seats... what all is black and whats white?  It has black door panels and everything but looks like the a=pillars maybe were painted.  Some of it could have been changed too...  trying to keep it as original as possible ???

Silverchally,

I had the same problem with my 70 Challemger R/T.  I wasn't sure what it should look like. Here's what I was told from this site:

"White vinyl interiors were also available on both AAR's and T/A's regardless of exterior color.  A white vinyl bucket seat interior used code H6XW. With this package you received white seats and seatbacks, headliner, door panels and rear side panels. The other parts of the interior were black including the dash pad, carpet, horn button, steering column, speaker shelf, console, and front kick panels.  There have been documented exceptions to this rule"

I found this on: www.aarta/com

How to Decode Your Interior.

The interior is denoted by a four position code on your fender tag.
The first position is for Trim Grade. H - High
P - Premium

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second position is for Trim Type. 4 - Vinyl Split Bench Seat
5 - Cloth & Vinyl Bucket Seats
6 - Vinyl Bucket Seats
R - Leather & Vinyl Bucket Seats

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The third and forth positions denote the Trim Color.

(Just like the paint codes, these letters and numbers
mean something. Letters denote colors: B = Blue,
E = Red, F = Green, K = Orange, T = Tan,
W = White, and X = Black.
Numbers denote the shade within that color.
(The higher the number, the darker the shade.) B5 - Blue or Bright Blue
E4 - Red
F8 - Green or Dark Green
K4 - Burnt Orange
T5 - Tan or Saddle Tan
X9 - Black
BW - Blue & White
EW - Red & White
FW - Green & White
XW - Black & White

OK, sounds like you have a mish-mash. If you have white seats, the door panels, headliner, A-pillars , and sun visors should also be white. Dashpad, kick panels, and carpet black. I think I got it right here.  :banghead:

MEK, that is how we got, when I was a teen ('93?), a yellow 72 or 3 Chally that had been totaled in the late seventies. I am sure the interior wasn't monkied with.
That car was bought for the front clip. I tore the interior out and found what I guessed was a blood stained back seat. It looked like a train ran the back end over. My dad told me to get over it, it was probably just red tree sap or something. I was pretty I had never seen red tree sap and there weren't trees in the bone yard. ????
Anyways,..........................
Yeah, I think you're right about the interior MEK.
Sorry for the gross story.

 :iagree:

Also, console and rear view mirror are black.
I think the package tray is black too. (I think it was to stop glare when reversing)?

It has the h6xw code on the tag, so that sounds right.  Looks like the original headliner though and its black... guess it could have been d\yed as the a-pillars definetly were white.  No console, its a column shift, so no worries there.  Thanks for the help

Thanks Barry, good to see I was right. Like I said, the package tray is black.....looks out of place, but, I guess it's better than being blinded by sun light off the white & looking out of place wrapped around a pole. lol

That is exacly what my Challenger interior looked like as well. Except mine was trashed.

So I fitted a full black interior just because I guessed there was no way I could keep it looking white what with my oily jeans, a girlfriend at the time that was always eating snacks, and a black dog. >:(

I might change it back one day.

My rear view mirror was black.

"...a girlfriend at the time that was always eating snacks..."

Lol.

My advice is to put an end to that immediately, if it ever comes up again.

A) Car stays cleaner
B) Girl stays thinner
