Plans For Your Mopars Once You've Passed On?
« on: January 08, 2007 - 07:37:10 AM »

Just curious, kind of a morbid subject I guess, but, eh, you'll live lol....anyhow, I was just wondering what some of you guys will be doing with your Mopars once you have left this life? I myself have got to go in and fill out some forms (do the will thing). Mum, Dad and my Sister will be the owners (in that order). If no one is left I have decided to donate or forward my Mopars to The Southwards Car Museum (which some of you may have heard of). That car crazy guy Meguiar(?) did a show on it. I thought that would be nice as lots will be able to view the cars and enjoy them for what they are. Plus, a big bonus for me was knowing that the Museum is a trust so there is no risk of it losing business or going bankrupt etc and I know the cars are well taken care of.

Just wondering what you guys have decided, if you haven't, don't you think you should?
That a$$-clown of a neighbor might forge some papers & drive your pride while you're entering the pearly gates. lol

:roflsmiley: Do we have to do that, but I guess "passin on" to Mopar heaven will be OK  :roflsmiley: I've always said they will never be sold. But in practical logic if it serves as a means to me or my wife to do so for financial help to one or the other so be it. No I do not plan on passing them on to any family member............none of them would appreciate or care for them like we do, so as far as I'm concerned they some day will be owned by true Mopar people. I do know one of our cars will be given (should my wife go first, no, not WSM) to a member here, no money exchange, just my signature on the title and handled over to this person. And no I'm not saying whom, but Pam also knows my wishes on this, and unless she needs to sell for financial support this will be what takes place.  :2thumbs:

Hard to think about, definitely.  Being as Im so young, I try not to think about it, but it can happen at any time I guess.  Chally goes to Dad.  '67 truck goes to my cousin, who is probably my best friend.  He already likes mopars, but I am morphing him into a mopar freak, slowly  :roflsmiley:

Ol' Super Blue will go to my 6 year old son Joshua as I don't think the wife or daughters are that interested in it.

I know he likes the car as on a couple occasions I was thinking of selling it to get something else but he said, "Don't sell Super Blue!"

Just have to keep it for another 10 years then he can drive it.  Can't wait for him to get behind the wheel!  ;D

...I plan on making things easy for my spouse or kids,

...businesses and commercial propertys liquidated/sold in a few more years except the building I store my cars in...

...I have designated a T/A, a Viper and a Vette for each of my kids, or they can liquidate those too

...a Prowler for each grandkid

...the rest of the car collection/toy collection will go to the wind unless the kids want them too, it's ultimately up to them to dispose of all the stuff how ever they want

..."this ones mine Papaw"

As for me,  I'll be passing mine on before I die.  My little Mopar Mechanic ( see avatar ) will be getting the RoadRunner as her first car ( if she wants it ) and the Challenger will go to the wife if she outlasts me.  If not, the daughter wins it all.

NZ,
you bring up a very good point although it is not a pretty thought. As much as we love our cars they are not really ours. We are just the caretakers of them. Every time I hear of a large collector like Ron Soble or Chip Miller(Carlisle Founder) pass on and the collection they leave behind I get shivers down my spine. I have no kids to leave them to--I do have a brother and a sister and several nices and nephews but none of them have any interest in the cars themselves. They know they are pretty and worth money but that is it. My wife also would not have any use for them. So I told her in case I go suddlenly to contact a friend of mine who knows what the cars and parts are worth and let him auctions everything off and give him 10% of the sale for his trouble. Those of you that have sons or daughters to hand them down to are lucky to keep them in the family.  I guess that is why we should enjoy the heck out of them while we have them.

My youngest son has told me he wants my car. (9yrs old)  My oldest (11 yrs old) doesn't want it. (he had first dibs)
I don't know if that will change but if something suddenly happens to me thats the way it will go. When they are older they may change their minds about the car but I will leave it in my will regardless.

Funny you should bring this up right now - I'm in the middle of my parent's estate settlement right now (both passed away within the last year) and unfortunately, the only vehicle my dad still had was his '98 Dodge Caravan (that my brother has already claimed).

I don't have any kids, divorced 2X and my nieces aren't worth squat (won't leave a dime of my money to them, wait, maybe I will leave them a dime each).

Before I pass on, I intend to spend every cent I've earned and drive my Mopar until they take my license away, then I'll probably sell it & have one hell-uva party before I go......

I am a single parent. Everything I have is to be sold and the proceeds put in a trust fund for my daughter that she can start drawing from it when she is 18.  I have life insurance to help the Ex raise her until then.  I have a buddy who knows what everything is worth.  He is also a Mopar guy. He will handle the selling of the Mopars and the parts.  I am set up to do the same for him if he were to pass away.  Many of our families have no idea what the cars we have are worth.
