This site has some a pretty decent article about restoring your heater box and how they painted to look original.

http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/34500_mopar_ac_system_restore_ii/

Also check this site out has some good pics of heater boxes ripped down and restored.

Hope this helps

Roy, The motor colors must vary as most pics I see are silver while my '73's OE is black.
An idea to bring your boxes finish back try satin clear urethane.

We had some urethane foam (from a surplus/upholstery supply store) that I had used under some vinyl for a door panel (on a Morris Minor). We just duplicated the shape of the door gaskets and stuck it on with contact cement.  Works fine and cost almost nothing.

I am in the process of restoring my non A/C '70 heater box and have purchased a rebuild kit for it.  The original foam is dust but I noticed on one of the interior doors under where the foam was is a yellowish tinted celohpane sheet glued to both sides, overhanging the door itself.  I believe the overhang is to assure a tight fit.  My replacement foams are slightly bigger than the door as well.  Should I remove the original celophane sheets or just glue the new foams to it?
