Air Lock ???
« on: January 11, 2007 - 08:38:47 PM »
Everytime that I take my gas cap off to put gas in the car there is a sudden air release and continues to gush out for a few seconds - Do I have a problem here ???

It may depend on the cap.

If you have a vented cap, then it will let air in but not out.  So if the temp changes a few degrees, the presure will rise and will be released when the cap is removed.  Mine does this all of the time and I have never had a problem.  I also do not run a return line either.

I am not sure about the non-vented cap.

Is air gushing in, or out?? If air is gushing in, then that's bad. My vent tube went to heaven on my car, and my fuel pressure would drop like a rock after a few minutes on the Hiway. Simply because the fuel pump can't suck the gas forward, if air isn't entering the tank.  :swear: Sputter, sputter.  :swear: In  70 the caps were not vented, but your 71 should be, if it still has the stock cap on it.
