Question about installing Performer RPM on 383.
« on: January 12, 2007 - 12:05:55 PM »
I have done many intake swaps on other engines Chevy, Pontiac, etc.  but I am wondering why they give you 4 intake gaskets in the set, how many am I supposed to use, just 2? or stack them? whats the deal here.

Big blocks use a stamped steel valley pan under the intake.  One set of gaskets goes between the valley pan and the heads, and the other set of gaskets goes between the valley pan and the intake...  That make sense?   I always left the gaskets between the valley pan and heads out and used gasket sealer in a tube there.  I think it creates a better seal to keep down vacuum leaks and oil seepage...    :bigshades:

I use the 1214 Fel Pro intake pan with the blocked heat crossover & I have always used the gasket between the heads & pan to prvent oil getting sucked int he intake ports & left out the upper gasket between the intake & pan
BTW the factory didn`t use either gasket just the pan & some sealer

Also if the heads or deck have been machined at all you might have trouble getting them in.

IF the 383 valley pan gasket is like the 440, then I just used sealer on either sides of it. I have no leaks. I used the Fel Pro gasket too.  :2thumbs:
