I'm glad I live in a small town. The only ordinance we have, is that if you have a car visible on you property, it must be licensed/inspected, but they hardly ever enforce it. There's a dirt race track about a mile away, and there are a lot of race cars around. They're always firing up on summer evenings, and no one ever complains about the noise. Even so, I bought myself 40 acres of deep woods where no one can see me, hear me, or bother me. I can let anything sit out as long as I want. Hopefully, within a year or two, I'll be able to build a house up there.

If nothing else, this has served the purpose of educating my wife.  She thought the neighbors were all great people.  Now she sees that they're busybodies.  She also suggested moving to the country (something I suggested about 5 years ago).  This I'm very happy about.

So last night's shenanigans went without any noise complaints also.  I put in the headliner (this has to be the worst part of building one of these cars).  Megadeth, ACDC and a few Quiet Riot hits were my playing.  After that, I hooked up the electric choke on the carb.  So I just HAD to fire it and see what a difference that made.  I really must hook up the tach tonight.  Then I have a long week of figuring out the perfect idle rpm.  Much rumbling from the exhaust.  It almost seems like the motor is at fast idle all the time right now.

I guess if I want to see the cops out here, I'll have to fire it up around 11pm lol

I have experience a little of this frustration myself.  I live near an industrial area of town and it turns out that we don't have noise ordinances because of it.  At least I thought so.  Turns out what I read in our laws is that there is no noise against mechanical noise.  So, when my dogs decide to howl at the sirens of the police cars and fire trucks they can actually cite me for my dogs.  But if my neighbor wants to wail on his electric guitar at 11pm, they can't do anything about it.  :dunno:

Short story is that I have a neighbor that irked me by going to animal control instead of talking to me first recently.  What they don't know it that the Hemi is coming and there might be some open header thunder at 2am coming.  :poopoke: :stirpot:

... at least once.

Then I am moving out into the county.

The country is great, we can work on our cars without any problems.  We use to have a neighbor who worked on his hot rod on the weekends, and I loved to hear him fire it up.  We also live right next to a small airport, and the planes are sometimes louder than my cars.  I would love to see the county try and inforce sound control.   :sly:

I sure don't have to deal with that sort of problem, even though I only live 1 block from the city's municipal building. The guy across the alley (towards the city building) runs a repair shop out of his back yard. We are zoned residential, but for some reason they aren't worried about shutting him down. He's pretty decent about keeping the noise down and doesn't really bother me so I don't mess with him. I figure the city will have to shut his operation down before they can mess with me about working on my personal vehicles. :naughty:
