Ouch, it backfired!
« on: January 13, 2007 - 06:43:03 PM »
My resto/modification of the engine.  Apparently, all that open header carb tuning that I did with the new motor ( http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=28767.0 )  upset the ears of one or more of my neighbors.  Much to my dismay, they had to email the mayor and get the town bylaw officer to pay me a visit.  End result?  I will be working my butt off this week to get the Challenger buttoned up (glass and weatherstripping) because it can't be parked in the backyard anymore with the tarp/garage over it.  There is concern that I'm running an automotive business in the yard.  LOL  Apparently the bylaw officer needs to see my receipts.  There's no profit in what I'm doing!

Just something to be aware of.  You never know who panics and gets offended.  Anyway, my response will be burnout after burnout after burnout this summer.  Don't care if there are any tickets either.

I got words to say , but can't make it sound right. So here's a question for you

You can't work on your own cars on your own property in the back yard?

Where do you live?

I know there are some subdivsions where I live that don't won't let you even open your hood in the driveway. I built my garage in my back yard a couple years ago to try and avoid any issues like this. Hope this all works out for you as this is a real bummer.

Number one, they can't get you for running an automotive business if you own the car.
Number two, you have the right to do your own work.
Number three, get it licensed and inspected, and there won't be a thing they can do about it. Most ordinances are designed to eliminate junk cars sitting around, but if it's legal, there isn't anything they can do about it.

That's got to be frustrating.  We have a city ordinance that all cars must be on a concrete slab.  And they actually enforce it!

It's amazing how much control others have over OUR property, I can see if it's on a public street, but not in your own back yard.

I try to follow a few simple rules when working on my own cars in my driveway,
1. Not everyone gets up or goes to bed at the same time, so when working on my car I don't start to early and I don't work on them to late, especially with air tools, or loud exhaust etc.
2. At the end of the day after working on my car, if for some reason I'm not done  and it's out in plain view, I always make it look like it's running, that means all four tires on the ground, hood on etc.

I've never had any problems with neighbors, but I've seen other neighbors have major problems with city officials.
Be careful it's amazing how much stuff the city can get you for if they really want too.

:stirpot:get it reg and you will be fine! inspection rules as an antique are a lot less strict.as for TEMP storage structure in your yard,i would check on city codes,in n.h. it is considered temp,so no restrictions. my friend turned one into a spray booth, works great,no taxes.

If his subdivision declarations and bylaws prohibit it, no you don't.

I`ve been real lucky to have cool nieghbors so far but you still need to be smart about it.Running open headers will always attract some kind of attention, usually bad.

That really sucks.I try and keep my stuff cleaned up around my place, because I live right in town on the main road.I also have really great nieghbors,I think most were as excited as me when I fired the 69 up with open headers. And we all watch out for each others property. As far as what the state or town depicts on what you can do on your own little piece of the world,You and others need to voice your opinions and remember that you live in the land of the free and pay taxes. And if they don't like it tell them to move to another country,Because this is AMERICA and we have men and woman who have died for that right.
