    Shift Quality of The Keisler Manuals?

    I'm looking at converting the 'Cuda into a 5-Speed or possibly a 4-Speed. Yes Chryco/Keith, this is NZ speaking. lol
    What I'm wanting to know is, how is the shift quality of the older 4-Speed? Heavy and clunky or nice and smooth to drive? I know part of driving a manual from that era is part of the fun but I'm wanting nice smooth, short, crisp, shifts to really power through the gears. Keislers? They smooth and do they have the "modern" feel to it?

    Hope this makes sense.....  :banghead:

    I wouldnt call it a short shift, nothing like a 350z or anything else modern.   The shift lever is simply too long to be a short throw.

    Carl, The Keisler is nowwhere near as "clunky" as the 833 is, but as Robb said the throws are still fairly long and it is not as smooth as a modern high dollar car.  Mine has become a little easier to shift as I have put some miles on it but I still don't have  500 miles yet so it may become a little better as it gets broke in. I like the shift compromise being not as clunky as the 833 but yet it dosen't feel like a ricer and I especially like being able to cruise at 65mph at about 1700rpm.

    Thanks guys, I'll definitely be converting if I can sell some stuff to get the $$$, it aint cheap, some $5,500!  :eek7:
    It will be worth it though......I never thought I would say this, but, I'm going off automatics.  :smokin:

    My first post didn't quiet make sense and Mopar73 summed it up well, I don't want super smooth, like the Japanese cars, I want to feel it but perhaps not as much as the heavier shifting A-833.

    Is there any short throw kits available aftermarket for the Keisler trans? I'll do some research and see what I can find. So, the only options are the A-833 & the Keisler?  Is there anything else on the market one should consider?

    The first A833 I drove I had to put that much force into the gear selects I thought I was gonna break it.. hehe.. I was used to sports car gearboxes.  :smilielol:

    I had one of the very first Kiesler trans , the shifter action was not great, but later they came out with a short through mechanisms for it and I thought it was great. This was in a 70 Charger with console pistol grip.

    I'm pretty sure that the short is all they come with now.

    Thanks guys, I have decided to get the Keisler TKO-600 (.64) PerfectFit kit.

    Is the only item I need that's not in the kit the tunnel hump?
    Anything else I need to purchase for a full automatic to manual conversion?


    5-Speed 340ci 'Cuda is going to be a very fun combo.  :ylsuper:

    I just got a kit from them about four months ago.  When I first started my body work, (gee, I can't believe it was about three years ago :banghead:) I ordered the hump by itself and put it in then.  When I ordered the kit, I made sure to tell them I didn't need it and they took it out of the kit for me.  However, between the time I ordered the hump and the kit, they started to include an additional smaller hump/patch/what ever you want to call it, in case you have clearance issues toward the front of the transmission.  They did include that in the kit as well.  Just thought I would mention that to give you the heads up on possible mods you might have to make. :cheers:

    Hemidog - Thanks for your input mate, much appreciated. I'll take it on board. The 2005? kit was suppose to be the one with install issues. Most of my searches etc have found that the 2006 Keisler 5-Speeds are a lot easier.
    I laughed at the "6 hour easy install".....yeah right!  :lol: They missed out "5 day....." "5 day, 6 hour easy install".  :biggrin:



    Thanks Kieth.....not sure if you've heard of V8 supercars down under but I got basically a road version of those cars the other day. 2002 Ford (Australian) T3 TS50. 2.5L 300kw 5-Speed in liquid Silver. Man she sounds awesome!

    Man that 'Cuda of yours is gonna be sweet, I'd like to have something like that. Lots of power, 5spd, good handling...  :droolingbounce:
