    I have the TKO 600 with the .64 5th gear.   I have 25 inch tires and 3.55 gears.

    currently with that combo, 1st gear is way too short, and the overdrive gear is a bit of a jump


    If I was going to do it all over again, Id probably get some 3.23s or little bit higher, and then get the .84 (?close anyway) 5th gear, where the gear ratios are a little closer together.

    i thought that the 1-4 gear ratio was same as factory 4 spd?

    Thanks, that's the same as I'm looking at. I have 28" tires and 3.23s. How short is short?
    If you go .84 TK0-600 won't the gears been even shorter or closer ratio?

    I just checked their website and the 1st to 4th ratios remain the same on both the TKO-600's. I used their "Speed Analyzers" chart page and the gear ratios remained the same, only the final gear ratio changes from 0.64 to 0.82. I'm not sure why they would option that, wouldn't everyone opt for the 36% less rpm 0.64 instead of the 18% less rpm 0.82 TK0-600?

    Gear ratio for the A-833OD is:

    75-79 overdrive A and F bodies 75-87 overdrive trucks and vans.   3.09   1.67   1.00   0.73

    easy,

    on the analyzer....  on the .64 OD

    check the cruising RPM in that OD gear against your tires and rear-gears.  Does it match your cams performance profile and your engines peak efficiency ?

    in your situation, at 2200 cruising rpm, your doing ~90mph.   My guess is, unless your roads are like the autobahn, youll never get max use of that OD gear.

    I guess, but with lower 65-70mph everyday cruising speeds why would you opt for higher rpms? The 1st to 4th ratios remain the same in both transmissions. I'd rather cruise with lower rpms, not sure about anyone else?   :)

    0.82 @ 2,300 is barely at cruising speed - 73mph That's not the greatest rpms. With the 0.64 TKO I can do the same speed with 500rpm (1,800rpms) less wear & tear on the engine while still maintaining the low down grunt, for me, it's a given. That way if I wanted I could still throw a 4:10 in the rear and cruise 2,000rpm @ 63mph.

    again,

    powerband of the motor at the given RPM.         Why not cruise at 800 rpm ?   
    a 4.10 gear in the rear, you could almost ignore first gear and just go right to second.

    If I had to do it over again, I'd do it differently.    good luck

    To me, 5th is OD, nothing else.....I would never worry about my rpms/peak performance in that gear as it's not in my nature. I just want my 4 gears with the OD cruise, 5th is highway, nothing else, so performance isn't a factor. Yupe, I know 4.10s would behead the tires but I was just saying those are the options I could go with if I liked. My TS50 is a 5-Speed, I race around in the first 4 gears then hit 5th and relax.  I can see what you're saying though, the 0.64 5th is a slow poky feeling gear while the 0.82 obviously gets better throttle response...I'm not 100% set on it yet but I'm 8/10 for the 0.64 at present.

    Whats the difference between the TKO-500 and the TKO-600? Is the 500 a 2005 trans and the 600 the new model?
    Or is it strictly a hp thing? TKO-500 rated at 550hp and the TK0-600 rated at 650hp?
