It's Gone!
« on: January 17, 2007 - 07:06:02 AM »
When I was a young kid aroung 11-14 I would go to this junk yard and go check out all the cars and look at the engines and just imagine what it was like back in the day.  But the car that caught my eye the most was a 73-74 Baracuda that was there it was a 318 car red with white int and it had sat in that junk yard until recently.  I came home about 5 months ago and just recently have made it down towards my grandmothers house where the junk yard was located.  Sure enough after 19 years of being in this junk yard this car is now forever out of my life.  I feel as if a piece of my childhood has been taken from me.  The dream has always been to go and buy that car one day.  After my first deployent to Operation Iraqi Freedom I got dressed up in my uniform and put on all my badges and ribbons and went to see the owner who to say the least is a very "unique" fellow and he remembered me and we talked about cars for quite some time.  We came to the subject of the Baracuda and said he priced it a man for 6k, I said I didnt have that type of money but I sure would love to be able to have that car.  At the time I think I could have afforded 3k on a project cuda.  So after returning from my last deployment I drove by the yard to see "my cuda" and sure enough it was gone.  I can only assume that someone of with means came buy and had cash and took it away.  Its just to bad I couldnt come up with the money in 19 years LOL!!!  Oh well.  Thank you for listening to me cry LOL!!!

I guess it was not meant to be. That doesn't mean you can't still find one and make it your own. Never give up on your dreams.

Did you physically go INTO the yard to verify this?? He could possibly have moved it, but chances are good that it was sold off....

Don, a couple of weeks before my Challenger went to Gerry's shop for it's resto i was so very close to purchasing a real 440-6pak Challenger R/T. The fact that it needed a total resto was beside the point as far as i was concerned - it had been sitting in a field for many years. That deal fell through and even though i still occasionally agonize over what might have been, Gerry's words to me as he and Joey tried to keep me from obtaining a car that would probably have waited until i paid my house off before i could do anything to it are just like kingtroll's, "...it just wasn't meant to be."
Instead Gerry has my old 67 Coronet R/T down to a near shell giving it a proper redo and between them my Challenger R/T SE is finally getting it's first proper attention since i bought it in 94. I had sold Gerry my Coronet to raise the cash for the 6pak Challenger and although i came up short, things are turning out ok for the car i've managed to hold onto all these years. Stay the course buddy and i'll echo kingtroll's sentiments. "Never give up on your dreams".

That's a cool story about cruising the junk yard and all, but too bad about the red Cuda. There's another car out there for ya. It seems like when you find a good deal and then get it, the next week you see a better one!! So hang in there!!

Ive had a similar thing happend to me.  About two days before I left for ARMY Basic training, I was visiting my grandparents when a car caught my eye at a house down the road.  I stopped in an asked and found out the car was a 1970 340 4 spd cuda.  THe guy had bought it new in 1970 and parked it in the barn in 74 due to gas prices and a baby on the way and it sat there for 30 years before I found it.  He wanted 2000 grand for it.  After I got back I stopped in and talked to him again and he still wanted 2000,  I cam back a week later(cash in hand) and the car was gone.  Moral of the story, don't wait too long if you got the chance to pick something like that up.  But keep looking, you never know, you might see it for sale again one day.

That happened to me also. There has been this original 1971 Challenger R/T 340 4-speed numbers matching black paint, striped delete, black interior.  just sitting at a gas station near me for 8 years. He said he wouldn't sell. The school bus drives past the gas station everyday than last week it was just gone (only 15). Hopefully if I can ever get enough money I will try to make a clone of that car.
