Sending unit
« on: January 18, 2007 - 02:23:48 PM »
I am looking at a sending unit for my 73 Challenger.
it has a 5/16 but I want to put a 3/8 in (who knows what could go in the car)

as I recal my sending unit does not have a return...the 3/8 advertised does..

were they different, or do you just cap off the new ones if you don't use it...etc.

Help?

Interesting.  :screwy: I haven't seen a 3/8 sending unit with a return line. Are you sure this is for an E-Body? They were for 440 and Hemi cars. I suppose there is no problem capping, or plugging the return nozzle if you don't need it. I want to caution, to get the full benefits of a 3/8" sending unit, you need a 3/8" line all the way to the fuel pump, then to the carb. Unless you plan on dropping something in that has well over 400HP, I would leave the 5/16" sending unit in there.

I plan to change the line out later, but not at this time.

I doubt I will ever change the sending unit again....how offten does one go bad.

The only reason I am planning on changing it out now is based on the fact that I have to change the tank.

As long as it is made well, it should last you many many years, just like the originals that are still being used today.
