Raising the mopar mark in my town-think I should?
« on: January 18, 2007 - 06:11:04 PM »
There is not a bunch of mopar people around my town. There are good mopar people here, just not many. And no really fast street cars

I have my 1028 hp 499 injected engine out of my 72 cuda right now and was thinking about detuning it a bit, putting it back on race gas, and maybe installing it in my 74 challenger for a few months. I would have to tie the frames I am positive about that. Go to a 1/2 fuel system, and try to make it hook without installing tubs in the car. This is a mostly small block chevy area and the 1/8 mile track is 7 miles from the house. My engine in my cuda now will run a mid 4/4.70's in the 1/8 at 145 mph. I think I can detune it enough to run high 9's in the quarter. My cuda used to run 9.82 in street trim before I made it a race car. I had been in the 9 second street car club since 1990.

Think I could get them chevy guys rieled up a bit out here? I'd only do this for about 4 weekly races.I got the old headman hustler headers for it still and some frame/engine mounts. 5500 8 inch, 410's. I'd just need to get a good set of tires. They sell 112 octane at the pump in the town I'm in. This could be fun.

I am wanting to start getting my name around in this area to pick up some mopar building jobs, so I can tell my job I am really gonna retire. I sent them a resignation and they wouldnt accept it oct 1st 2006.

Alan, Sounds like a plan to me, and business or not you should have lot's of fun. You might want to consider bringing your car to some shows or cruise ins & have some business cards to hand out. What kind of work are you looking to do for hire?

I thought about installing my ladder bars and stuff, I also got crank trigger and 7al2 and what not, but I still think I can run a good street time with out everything. I am picking up my spring relocation stuff tomorrow at my place around gonzales la. I have a transbrake and a 5500 8 inch, but I am not going to use the brake. I did install a 277 first gear tho :2thumbs:. With 790 ft lbs of tq, it is rather hard on 8 3/4 rears, they will not last, so I will be conservative. But I wanna shut some people up around here without talking to them.

I took my 499 cube 68 dart out there and it was slow to me, but they all thought it was running good....just wait.

At my shop, I will be doing all muscle car work. Mopar only. a/c, front ends, engine, wireing, brakes, rears, what ever. I may do some computer and a/c work for side jobs on other types of cars just to help out the needy and keep the prices down for some of the seinor citizens.

My challenger, I want to be able to keep it kinda stock. Same with the 440-6 70 barracuda I will be installing the engine in on monday. I am bringing home a 71 hp engine to start on. I decided I was going to do another 499 for the callenger with the 440-1 heads, small roller cam, and steel rods this time. Keeping it all under 700hp to last on the street a while

I usually just build my own leaf springs. When I used to run leafs on my 72 cuda in the begining, I could 60' a 1.42/1.45.. That wasn't bad, the ladder bars and engine mods gave me a 1.31 to a 1.29.  Now with all my chages, a 1.18/1.19. I am not going to go deep into this challenger. I just want to leave a mark for the mopar legend around here. They will see my 72 cuda soon enough. Plus a mild 499 by fall will keep the challenger in the high 10's and not deep in my pockets. I still have around 6k left to put into my 70 barracuda 440-6 so I am just letting the locals know that there are cars out here besides chevies, that can do the do and take the finish line.
