Rear axle gears

I converted my 727 to a A833.  I don't nave much knowledge about rear ends.  What gear ratio would make this car quicker off of the line with out sacraficing streetability.  It is currently a 340 car with a standard rear end.  Please assume everything else works properly.

With small blocks I like to run 3.91  gears or lower even with an automatic, and 3.55 for big block cars. Also streetability is a relative term, highway driving is what will really determine how low you should go.

there are a # of options here , if you use the OD 833 4 spd when you convert 3.91 would be my choice , as you will have tons of low end power & still have around 2.80 for the highway , if you are going to a regular 833 3.23 or 3.55 aree good all round gears , it really depends what you want the car to do & how much time you spend cruzin , city commuting or highway driving

It it your opinion that the 3.91 will allow for no problematic highway driving?  Is there a middle ground between the 3.91 and the 3.55?  If so your thoughts please.

there is a 3.73 available for the 8 3/4 diff
 persoanlly I would not choose 3.91 with any significant amount of highway driving Inless I was using the 833 Od trans

Does the fact that I am running 17"x7 front and 17"x8" rear magnum wheels on the car create issues with rear axle gearing?  For this set up what gears would you run?

 The overall diameter of the tire & wheel combination would have to be similar so no it doesn`t effect the gearing

I drive my small block with 3.91 on the freeway all the time with no problems, but I don't usually cruise down the freeway at 80 mph in that car though.

I don't have the A833 OD therefore I am taking your advise and going with the 3.55.  Can you suggest any vendors?

Summit , Jegs , Mancini are probably as cheap as anyone , should be in the mid $200 rpice range
 Strange , Motive , Eaton ,Richmond are all good makes

3.55 would be a good choice. 28" rear tire 275/60/15. I ordered mine from Summit and are Motive Gears, on back order from 3 weeks, should have them by the 30th. Never used Motive before so I like to try something different....Vin..

A 3.91 with 28" tires would effectively give you something in between ~
