A833OD Shift rods
« on: January 20, 2007 - 07:41:27 AM »
1st of all I will explain where I am at with my 833OD
I have a used A833od, the shifter is mounted on the rear mount.
I purchased a new set of 71-74 833 rods and levers.
I know that the 3/4 lever should be inverted.

I am trying to figure out which way the rods attach to the shifter and the levers?
Every way I install them, something ends up having interferance.

I am not sure which lever is for which gear?
Not sure which way the revese rods goes? Is the revese rod the one which has a large cure in it?
Which way does the rods attach to the shifter? do they mount all on the one side or is one of them on the back side of the shifter?

Does any one have any Picture's of the A833OD set up with the rods and levers on?

HELP  :swear: :swear:

Thanks

the fish hook shaped rod is the reverse rod , the long hooked end goes towards the rear under the cross memebr , the reverse lever should point up & the rod should go into the lever from the trans side
depending which shifter you have , probably the truck one the the 1-2 rod needs to be toward the longer reverse lever to clear , the long lever on the shifter is the reverse , the next one is 1-2 & the furthest from the long lever is 3-4
the 3-4 lever should point down & the rod should go into the lever from the tunnel side of the lever
the 1-2 rod should enter the lever from the tranny side & the lever should point up
 I hope this helps

Thank you

That is what I have now!!

I have a Hurst Comp + shifter which is brand new.

I think the only problem now is that the 1/2 rod is to short by about 3/4" - 1"
Is this normal or is there something else wrong
Most likely I have the wrong 1/2 lever, they all came in a kit for E-bay.

One more question,  I have a lot of play bewteen the rods ends and the shifter mounting holes.
I think i need to make some brass bushings, should there be a lot of slop?

Chryco

Here are some picture's of what I have so far!!
What do you think?

The 1/2 rod need to be 1.25" longer. I had some more time to play around and measure them.
I am not going to cut/sleeve them untill I am 200% sure this is correct.

looks right to me  , you may need to bend the 3-4 rod slightly once it is in the car as it may rub against the crossmember
Hurst sells a bushing kit for $10 or so that should take up the loose rod ends
