Finally some photos of the completed project from Aus.
« on: January 20, 2007 - 11:21:54 PM »
Hi to all

Apologies to all for the huge gap between posts but I just don't seem to get much computer time lately. I have finally managed to get my Challenger road registered & running properly, it has been a long time coming ( almost 4 years ), but I am now enjoying some road time.
As I can barely remember the whole project here's a brief run down.

Purchased in February 2003 as a stock 318 slapstick auto car with factory air power steer & drum brakes all round. White with brown vinyl roof & some SE trim & a set of 16" after market alloys.

I have fitted a mild 360 (hence the FAT-59L plates indicating 5.9 litre engine) repainted the engine bay but kept it fairly stock.

I stripped off the vinyl roof & repaired lots of rust around the front & rear windows & the roof itself & repainted the roof, trunk & tops of rear 1/4 panels to match the rest of the car.

The tan interior was in pretty good condition the seats had been retrimmed it had a new head lining & carpet so I just did some tidying up ie painted the door trims & fitted a new dash cap & installed A 4 speaker CD player . I would like to completely redo the interior some time further down the track.

The wheels are American Racing 200s, fronts are 17x7 with 225/45r17 tyres, rears are 17x9.5 with 275/40r17s, most people including me, think they suit the car well, being old school muscle car style & not too big in diameter.

I have fitted 2" drop spindles from a local Valiant on the front which also allows me to do a cheap front disc brake conversion, the rear axle has 2" lowering blocks fitted. I think it looks cool & I still have full suspension travel so apart from the low sidewall tyres the car rides pretty good.

My local exhaust guy fitted me a set of dual  pipes 2 1/2" in diameter with only 2 mufflers sitting each side of the fuel tank & dumping just forward of the rear valance. The tail pipes can't be seen unless you are on your hands & knees, it sounds super tuff & attracts lots of attention on the road, it is a little loud inside the car but I'm enjoying it so far.

That about covers it I think so I'll post some photos, let me know what you think, we call the car FATARSE & I think if you are looking at it (or any Challenger for that matter) from behind you'll know why.

Cheers SoS

What kind of Valiant did the 2" drop spindles come from?

NICE 70 , LOOKS AWESOME IN WHITE . ANOTHER AUSSIE PINCHING MOPARS FINEST FROM THEM PESKY YANKEES LOL!!! OUR DROP SPINDLES ARE "A" BODY TO YOU GUYS BUT NO GOOD TO YOU COS DISCS & W/BEARINGS WOULDNT BE AVAILABLE OVER THERE, YOU CAN REAM THE TOP BALLJOINT HOLE AND FIT EM TO E BODIES , YOU CAN ALSO USE THE A BODY LOWER CONTROL ARM OVER HERE BUT THE SWAY BAR MOUNTS ARE UPSIDE DOWN , ( CUT AND REWELD THE RIGHT WAY UP ) its a tad shorter but works ok .
T/A AND R/T............... IM GREEDY.

Hey jacksboys

ozrt4406 is correct my spindles are A body ones with the top ball joint hole reamed out, you also have to use the A body lower ball joint which gives you shorter steering arms. The wheel alignment comes out ok, but it does give you faster steering. My car turns into corners very directly more like a later model car with rack & pinion set up. Most of our Australian cars are A bodies so it gives us a good supply of spares if you can adapt something onto an E bod.
