I went out to Barrettt Jackson on visitor's day (this past Monday) as I had never been there before. Just about everything they have for sale is 100% restored with new paint, perfectly clean underbody, etc.
Watching the auction on TV last night, I think the Mopar prices are definitely down from last year.
Example 1: 71 Challenger convertible, all correct matching number 383 and 4 speed, white interior went for $ 77,000, including 10% buyer's commision. With matching #'s that's an extremely rare car.
Example 2: 70 R Code Hemi Challenger slime green coupe, 4 speed, console, Super Track Pack, vinyl roof and black bee stripe, with original build sheet supporting all the options. I loooked at this car and talked to the seller for a good while. It was perfect. It does have a vintage replacement Hemi block, but I thought it would bring more. $ 200,000, including the 10%.
Example 3: And this is the one that resembles my car the most; 70 Hemicuda; Black with white interior; 22,000 mile car. Automatic with matching numbers, but without the 4.10. $ 286,000, including commission. The white matching # 4 speed car that sold right after it (also all matching) went for even less- $ 264K.
I know this ain't chump change, but appears down from last year, when that black 4 speed rebodied 71 Hemicuda went for 600K. 71's were a little better than 70's this year also and one very original 70 Hemicuda with less than 100 miles went for $ 550,000.
Is the big Mopar bubble bursting? What do you think?
