Mopar sales prices down at BJ...
« on: January 21, 2007 - 10:53:41 AM »
:( I went out to Barrettt Jackson on visitor's day (this past Monday) as I had never been there before. Just about everything they have for sale is 100% restored with new paint, perfectly clean underbody, etc.

Watching the auction on TV last night, I think the Mopar prices are definitely down from last year.

Example 1:  71 Challenger convertible, all correct matching number 383 and 4 speed, white interior went for $ 77,000, including 10% buyer's commision. With matching #'s that's an extremely rare car.

Example 2: 70 R Code Hemi Challenger slime green coupe, 4 speed, console, Super Track Pack, vinyl roof and black bee stripe, with original build sheet supporting all the options. I loooked at this car and talked to the seller for a good while. It was perfect. It does have a vintage replacement Hemi block, but I thought it would bring more. $ 200,000, including the 10%.

Example 3: And this is the one that resembles my car the most; 70 Hemicuda; Black with white interior; 22,000 mile car. Automatic with matching numbers, but without the 4.10. $ 286,000, including commission. The white matching # 4 speed car that sold right after it (also all matching) went for even less- $ 264K.

I know this ain't chump change, but appears down from last year, when that black 4 speed rebodied 71 Hemicuda went for 600K.  71's were a little better than 70's this year also and one very original 70 Hemicuda with less than 100 miles went for $ 550,000.

Is the big Mopar bubble bursting? What do you think?

:iagree:  Would love to see the day these cars become more affordable again...but hate to see everyone loose a lot on their investments.

I saw this car roll through last night. I couldn't believe it "only" brought 200K. It was gorgeous!!  :droolingbounce:

I would not care to comment unless seeing the cars in person. I have seen cars that looked good on the TV coverage and after talking to friends who had seen them at the auction, they left a lot to be desired. I will say that Saturdays prices seem to be much higher than other days. Sunday morning seems to be when you can get a buy. :dunno:

That Plum 70 Hemi cuda clone with shaker looked pretty decent for $72K....but like JS said, these cars all look good on tv, and hard to judge without seeing in person.

I have a friend who's there this weekend, who also owns a resto shop. I'll get the lowdown in the next week or two.
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

Last Saturday you had to be a bidder ($500 fee) to get in, and that's when all the sellers are there answering questions and showing their cars. I had to wait till Monday for general public day, and not all the sellers were there then. I wanted badly to see under the hood of the black Hemicuda, but nobody was there. The catalog write up on the black one was not well done in my opinion.

But I did see the slime green Hemi Challenger close up and personal and couldn't see anything wrong with it. I have always been told that original engine is not so important on Mopars as for other cars like Corvettes, but that may have been what held back that car. I know the seller expected more. That's what is the down side of taking a car to BJ because you sell with no reserve.

There was also a very correct slime 70 Hemicuda stripe delete 4 speed car with a replacement block that sold at 286K.

not only seeing in person but how a car performs: starting /driving / stopping etc. it's what really counts imo.

I could care less what these cars are worth, even if the prices are down from last year, still alot of money.  If people bought them as investments only and now lose money, good for them!  There are alot of people who can actually enjoy these cars.

The one orange cuda, they couldn't even get the trunk to latch closed :roflsmiley:

Anyone that used BJ's sell prices for anything more than entertainment is  :screwy:

If you notice all the cars they push off do not have the trunks closed.

I'm glad to see a little sanity come back into the Mopar market. If this is what it takes to drive out all the "investment" types who could not care less if they were buying a Cuda,a vette, or a stock certificate, I'm all for it.

Seems to me the numbers the cars were moving for were about what the real market is for these cars, not the usual over-inflated B-J prices.

That's good, I plan to keep my 2 Cuda's until they're not worth anything anyway. I only saw one six-pack Cuda and no real 71 Cuda convertibles in the sales list? Also where are the sales results?
