Paint question
« on: January 23, 2007 - 10:42:09 AM »
Am I to assume that if the paint job for my car is not a "show quality" paint job there will be imperfections?  The reason I asked is this:  my car was painted last week.  The painter is now wet sanding an buffing the car.  I noticed several slight imperfection in the paint that he says he may not be able to sand or buff out.  Am I being too picky?  The car is not being rotisorie restored to show quality but it is a restoration none the less from a well respected MOPAR restoration shop in my area.  Thanks in advance for your comments.

I see lots of imperfections in my paint that nobody else ever notices. I think we're just a little more picky when it comes to our own cars.

That makes me feel much better.  I have spent a lot of mopney on the car thus far and although not possible I want it to be perfect.

Wetsanding and buffing will clear up most of it.  And yes you'll be way more critical of the car being the one always looking at it.  I do my own body/paint so I see it even more!  The color will be a factor, some flaws in metallic are very easy to see.

Its from staring at the car to long, your burning holes in the paint   No but really, on my cars I notice new stuff everyday, things that have been there forever but just noticing them bothers me...its called being picky

:iagree:  I've had my car on a lift the past month replacing suspension bushings, and am seeing all kinds of imperfections from that angle that I've never noticed before.

You get what you pay for. By that I mean if you gave the body shop $2000.00 for the paint job (not including body work)
it's going to have a lot of flaws, $10 to $15000.00 it better be almost perfect & $20 to $30000.00 perfect as in major show winner way over restored. But then again the paint only looks as good as the body work.

Every car out there has them. If you wash and wax it you will find them. 99.9 percent of the people will never see them but you do 'cause you know where they are!! If you paying 5-10K on a paint job I would probably get worried but for a basic to good job it should be fine. :2cents:

Being from a autobody back ground I see things nobody seems to see. I would tend to agree that most of the cars at shows have some defects in the paint. You will always notice all of your cars as you are the one working, cleaning, and waxing it all the time.

I'm waiting for warmer temps. to start re-painting my car. It drives me nuts too! People say how nice it looks. To me it looks like it was painted by someone who should've wore glasses. :sly: Last time I had someone else paint a car I was very unimpressed with the results.Doing things yourself helps alot. But I am my worst critic.I seem to just pick it apart sometimes......and want to dig in more :working:     Most of the time they only see the back end anyway :burnout:

At least that is the way it's supposed to work out.  Although not a show paint job, I paid a heafty sum.  The body is lazer straight so I am not seeing waves.  It appears that in a spot or two there are some minor flaws.
