aluminum radiators
« on: January 23, 2007 - 09:58:23 PM »
I'm looking for some input and ideas for aluminum radiators. I would love to see some pics of cross flow radiators installed in E-bodys. If this has already been done point me in the right direction!  :dunno:
My project is a 70' Cuda pro-touring kinda thing. Here is the link to my blog http://360.yahoo.com/brinkenterprise and under members projects "channeling a 'Cuda" It will be running a late model Hemi and want to run a cross flow aluminum radiator. I have a XV lower rad support and need to push it up as far as I can that means having a radiator in hand to make sure it clears. ( what happened to XV's radiators?) Some known issues because of the channeling. I can't use the Be-Cool set up that goes over the frame. Bill Reilly's radiator would work but doesn't make the best use of space if you have a 26" support. any experience and pic would be helpful.  :picture:
Thanks for all the great support -Bob

Griffin rads  has to levels , the cheap rads are epoxied together & will eventually leak , you really need to use a welded rad

I used one of the radiators from Summit. Northern  makes them.  They are made in the USA and are all welded construction.  Seem to be a nice piece too.  I just have started fitting it into my car (Challenger).  I can post some pics later this evening.

Here's a link to the one that I purchased from Summit.

It's 27.xx wide, but the core is the exact size of the opening in the radiator support for a Challenger.

This is good stuff.   :grinyes: I hadn't looked at house brands yet and I was poking around summit tonight. Look what I found it's a direct fit but they have done a terrible job of what it fits. I think it will be a direct bolt in on any e-body with a 26" support. The price seems fair and you can get left or right.

might be cool.

I have that one, It will bolt in, you will need to trim the pass side flange an little, and if I remember you also have to drill a new hole. Remember to buy the inverted flare fittings for the trans cooler if you are to use it.

conv340,
Are you using a XV lower rad support? Also, what is the machine with the "cuda" lettering in blue in the background? Is that a weird coincidence or something?
Finally, thanks for bringing this topic up, it has helped me find a radiator.

:lol2: Isn't that great! Here in Ca we can no longer have "solvent" tanks. So in looking for a replacement "aqueous" parts washer. we found the Cuda brand to funny of coarse I had to have it!
Yes that is a XV lower brace. I needed to fit the rad so I could see how far up I could push the brace. It comes fairly long on the ends and would clear a factory radiator. But it hangs down below the valance. With the car sitting so low thats not good . Now it is flush with the bottom of the valance. The comparison pic is before I cut it down about 2.5"
