Fastest Car in High School
« on: January 24, 2007 - 01:49:11 PM »
This is a memory jogger for sure.  Think back (further for some of us than others  lol) to your high school days.  Who had the fastest car, and what kind of car was it?     :cooldancing:

Waaaaay back when I was in high school, a good friend of mine had a built 440 4-speed 2-door Coronet with  8.3/4 suregrip and 5:13 gears.  That car was scary quick.  There were other fast cars, but I think that one was the king of the mountain.  Couple of V-8 Vegas, and a few Vettes, but they wouldn't outrun that 440 Dodge....    :burnout:

I have the fastest car at my high school. I don't DD mine so alot of people don't know it. Alot of kids think their 4 cylinders are fast. I don't street race though so I don't show them. At my school our homecoming queen last year passed away from two idiots racing on a busy street. That opened my eyes. I can't wait till the track opens up though. One guy has a 90something Z28 with boltons(lt1) he might give me a run for my money.

Isnt that the truth lol. One tried to 'show me up' on a rainy day by spinning his tires 20ft or however far it was. I went through all three gears in about 15  :eek7: :walkaway:

I was a fast car wannabe in high school........    :smokin:    I had a 57 Chebbie 2 dr hardtop with a 283 2 bbl and a 2 speed powerslide tranny.  Heavy car with little power= not fast at all.  It sounded good though---headers and cherry bomb glasspacks...   lol      :burnout:    :cooldancing:

I graduated in '86.  Hmmmm....no one officially raced but I guess it had to be between 2 cars.

A silver '74 Trans Am with a 455 (Man, you could here that carb sucking in air just at an idle!) and my buddies orange '68 Camaro RS/SS with a built 400 and a tunnel ram set up.  My Lucky buddy also had a '69 GTO convertible that he bought for $500!  Those were the days.......  :walkaway:

That Camaro had a little Mopar flair to it because it had the twin hood scoops from a '70 Coronet!  :faint:

Brings back memories of the cars in high school.  Even a couple of my teachers had Z-28s.  My autoshop teacher liked the British cars: 4 Rolls Royces, an MG, and a Jaguar.  His friend helped design the bodies for the Factory Five Racing Cobra kit cars.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Pic #2 and 3 of my ARII 1/24 scale model car

Phil in New England-Massachusetts  Always thank God for what you have!

Two stories come to mind, can't say I know which was the fastest.
Guy had a Chevelle Big Block 4spd and I was told that he had a hundred dollar bill he would stick at the front of the dash where the windshield meets & anyone who could get the bill before he shifted into fourth could have it..... never gave away any $
Another was Eric Daltons '67 Firebird 400 Ram Air 4spd 4:11 posi. I met him on the back road once in the '73 340. We lined up & let um rip, by the time the torqueflite hit 2nd gear at about 50mph he had burned rubber in all four gears & was at least 20 lengths ahead.  :bricks1:

There was a handful of hemi cars, a lot of 440 cars and 383 cars and the 340s were starting to show up in numbers in new Swingers, but the  quickest was a  1955 Chev with a leaned on 427 with a 6-71 and 4.56s or so out back. That was the king from zero to 100 mph or so. He could fill the entire high school parking lot in a cloud of rubber in seconds.

I would have to say that the fastest car at my high school while I was there would have to be a 1968 chevelle, with a built small block with 2.02 angle plug double hump heads that were ported, and 4.10 gears in the 12 bolt. That car really hauled ass.
